As a student of the flute, I have made Rampal one of my personal role models. This recording is a prime example of why that is the case. These performances shine with exceptional flute playing. Of note is Rampal's clear, perfect tone, remarkable intonation and pristine articulation. In the finale of the Mercadante concerto, in particular, the ending passage with articulated 32nd notes wich often jump octaves particualy demonstrates Rampal's finesse. He handles the nearly impossible passage with complete ease and perfection. The 3 concertos on this disc will make a fine addition to any flutists or music lover's library.

The tone is surely good. It's a pity the same doesn't happen about intonation and pulse. It's strange how he run in every fast passage.
