Not a huge book, but the recipes will give you ideas to experiment on your own.

This book isn't amazing but it definitely isn't bad. It is actually fairly small and only contains a handful of recipes. None of them are particularly creative or inspired and I would assume are actually available online. If you've giving a mountain pie maker as a gift, this book can definitely make a great addition to help people get started. However, if you are looking for something to take the deliciousness that are mountain pies to the next level of creativity and amazingness, definitely skip this book.

Just as an added bonus for those who bought this book and were a little disappointed in its slim content, I will share one of my own favorite recipes.

Ingredients:
2 buttermilk biscuits flattened
diced mix of onions/peppers (bell)/jalapenos
shredded mozzarella cheese
pepperoni
tomato sauce

Oil/butter (I know they say don't use butter, I haven't really had a problem as long as you burn it off later) the insides of the pie iron. Be liberal with your oil.

Basically what you want to do is flatten one biscuit on each side of the pie iron, mix and then pack all the other ingredients in, then close the iron and cook it VERY SLOWLY over/in an open fire. I cannot emphasize enough that you need to do this slowly otherwise the outside will burn and the inside will be raw. Take your time and get the biscuits nice and goldenbrown on the outside. They will puff up really nice. It'll be like your own little pizza empanada. So so good....

It's easy, the ingredients are very common and it is pretty quick to make even out by a campfire. Plus bread is boring. Why not give yourself a gut-bomb with super fatty biscuits!?

We used several of the recipes and ideas in this book on our last camping trip- best food we've ever had. If you haven't tried pie iron cooking, you're missing out. We had six adults and ten kids, six pie irons in constant rotation. Put out a nice buffet with suggestions from this book, and everyone had a blast- pizza pockets with pesto, chicken, garlic, green onions, peppers, pineapple, ham. Oh yes. . .we did. Loved it.

Present to my wife. She and I love to camp with our kids. Recently a friend showed us pie irons and we made sandwiches and apple pie (creatively) also made corn dogs. This recipe book gives us a lot of new ideas. Highly recommend it.

I also ordered Rome's #2011 Creative Pie Iron Cooking Book and found many of the receipes were also in the book Pie Iron Receipes. Save yourself some money and just buy one or the other. And just to warn you I found the book Rome's #2011 Creative Pie Iron Cooking Book at a camping store for almost half of the cost Amazon charges. Just to clarify, the camping store did not have the book on sale, their normal price was almost half what Amazon charged. I found the booklet to be very small and not worth the price I was charged. With that said I did find the receipes interesting and plan to try some of them in the near future. To wrap up my review...the receipes were good but I was overcharged for the book. I think $7.99 to $8.99 would be a fair price to charge.

I adore this tiny cookbook. It brings me back to all the times of camping as a kid with my grandfather. Some recipes are no-brainers but the cookbook also gave me ideas i may not have thought of one my own. If you have a pie iron I suggest getting this cookbook as well for inspiration.

For the price of this book you get what you pay for. It is black and white newspaper type paper and no illustrations to go along with the recipes. That being said there are a lot of clever ideas that I would not have thought of on my own. It actually got my creative juices going once I realized all the things that can be made in my handy little pie irons. The recipes are divided by which pie iron you have but I noticed that with a little modification most recipes can be used in your basic square pie iron. There are no fancy recipes here, just good hearty camping food that will add a few inches to your belly.

If you have pie irons you need iron recipes. This little book fits the bill. I keep it in my camping box and when I start to plan a camping trip this is one of the first things I pull out. there are recipes for breakfast, lunch and dinner plus some awesome desserts. My picky eater son loves to help chose what we will be eating.

You must have a Pie Iron recipe book if you have a pie iron (who goes camping WITHOUT a pie iron anyway?) LOL. Good ideas in this book..
