I've just received my CD today (22 Feb, 2007) and am sampling it for the first time. If you're a fan of HBO's "ROME" this soundtrack brings all of the resonance, texture and fabric of the series to life for your pleasure anywhere. If you haven't seen the series, this album is good enough to stand alone as wonderful background while you work, read or relax. Each individual track is strong and characteristic of it's particular part of the story. For the historical minded, it's raw pagan sounds bring ancient Rome to life. There are even bits of dialogue sprinkled amongst the tracks. I highly recommend it as musicianship at it's most creative.

From the album booklet, Bruno Heller, producer: "We asked Jeff for a score that does all the things scores are meant to do; evoking tension, pity, fear, pathos, irony, joy; but yet a score that felt like it might have been made by Romans, something strange and beautiful. Jeff delivered exactly what we asked for - powerful music, both strange and beautiful, that conjures up a very real but long-lost world."

I waited for many months until HBO got around to releasing the soundtrack to this incredible drama series. If you are a fan of the series, then this is absolutely essential to add to one's music collection. The composer, Jeff Beal, reminds me a great deal of Brian Tyler--the producer of the Children of Dune soundtrack. Both artists incorporate a strong flair of Eastern elements into their music and the result is spectacular. My personal favorite of the Rome soundtrack? "Cleopatra Seduces Caesar" (and that episode is my favorite of the first season).

The music is epic, majestic, meditative, and inspiring. I'd highly suggest it to anyone who loves orchestral music, soundtracks, and such things.

When HBO canceled 'ROME', I was ready to fall on my gladius, but thank the gods who blessed me instead with "ROME: Music from the HBO Series by Jeff Beal". Now, I am just a CD Player away from reliving the spectacle that was "ROME" the series! This soundtrack is a must have for any serious fan of "ROME" or Roman history. Get it NOW or be cursed!

This soundtrack brought tears to my eyes. I had wanted to buy the tracks since the show first premeired. The CD captures the spirit of the show. From passion to tortured sadness, each track is beautiful and sure to bring a nostalgic smile to your face. Very haunting and ethereal.

Jeff Beal has done a wonderful job of putting together this CD. This music evokes images of the past, during the glorious days of Rome. As I listen to the music, I am transported to the past .

Very true to the realism of the historical times as well as the show. This soundtrack covers all the bases you can think of whether it's the music of a favorite character about to die, or the horns of the Roman legions going to battle. Beautifully done.

I loved the series ROME and admired the theme music, and noticed the other background music. When I received the CD with the wonderful music, I loved it even more. I would also recommend it as a romantic, sensual backdrop. The composer should receive a grammy or emmy. I've listened to it many times, and I usually don't select this type of music.

This is an excellent soundtrack. If you liked the series Rome, you will love this CD. It transports you, and is excellent for a quiet evening at home, or a romantic one! A+++

I have been a fan of ancient epic soundtracks since I first watched Ben Hur in 1959, and for many years there has been a dearth of quality classical style soundtracks in this genre. The HBO Rome series resurrects this genre with a very satisfying soundtrack to this fabulous HBO series. Although it is not always awe-inspiring or classic, the Rome soundtrack is quality modern soundtrack music, and it listens well.We are living in the modern Rome otherwise known as America, and this soundtrack helps to convey the debauchery we all know is the Empire.
