4.0 out of 5 stars Very Total War Like, not impressive but fun for campaign fans
I purchased the Alexander Expansion first online which had turned into a nightmare situation due to installation issues. WARNING: don't buy the trymedia copy, you WILL have installation problems. 2.0 out of 5 stars Not "Great"
I Love The Total War Games, and the first expansion for Rome well, expanded the game. This however, does not. For one, you can only play as the Macedonians, and there's a 100 turn limit which made me feel like I was playing a demo. I can tell Creative Assembly put this out right as they were puting all their effort into Medieval 2. Not enough content for a pass.

Anyhoo, This Game is very much for me, I am not one of those Historical Battle fanatics, I like to create my own history within my campaign games, and thus, I found the new complexity of factions interesting as well as the unit variety colourful. I recommend to all Total War Round Campaing players

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't pay more than $10 for this., December 7, 2009

Had to add my comments when I saw the price for this item. This was (several years ago) a $10 download, its a short but tough campaign that adds a little extra to the original Rome Total War game, but not much. Although I enjoyed this it was more about bragging rights than the fun I would normally get from a full drawn out campaign. In summary, just don't buy this unless you can get it for $10.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fun...but I would save my money, May 6, 2008

I have been very impressed with the Total War series thus far. I was so excitted to buy all the expansion packs to Rome:Total War because I was so taken back by the graphics and the overall game play. I subsequently went out and bought the expansion Alexander. I was not hugely impressed with the game. The Persians seemed a little easy to defeat and the legendary Immortals were easy to kill, probably why the Macedonians conquered the Persians.

If you are a fan of the series, go with the Barbarian Invasion or invest in one of the other Total War games.

Total War products continue to amaze me with their detail to real life battles and the history behind them. Being a history teacher, I teach about Rome, the Medieval Ages and Alexander the Great, so I appreciate the level of detail these games provide.

Having played Rome TW for awhile, Alexander was a game I had to acquire. Its map focus on Alexanders conquests from Mesopotamia to Egypt to Persia and into in India are intense. I havent played through a whole campaign yet but it is definitly fun. I especially love the Phalanx formation and its power on the battle field at this time. There is no better way to victory than engaging Hoplites with a phalanx formation at the enemy's center and then using Alexander's Companion Cavalry to attack the flanks while they are engaged. Just wonderful!

I was less than impressed with this expansion. It has pretty much the same game play as Rome Total War but in this version you can only choose one faction. Also you can only play as long as Ceaser stays alive. I have played campaign one time and did not enjoy it. He did not die in battle but the next turn it said he had died. I haven't played it since because you can't choose anther faction.

The game is not an Expansion, it is an "ADD ON". No new stuff for the other two versions. Its a tough fight and well done. I can understand why some would expect more. It could have had more in it. The prices on Amazon are way to high (sorry guys) Try eBay, I got mine for $10 plus shipping.

Alexander is an add-on to Rome: Total War (RTW). I have played RTW, Medieval Total War 1 & 2 and all their expansions. So even the poor reviews couldn't stop me from getting Alexander. Amazon offers a download of Rome: Total War - Alexander (Expansion) [Game Download] for a very reasonable price. No CD required to play and the manual is included in the download. Alexander takes place 300 years before RTW. The game map is a little different as this campaign extends from Greece to India. The objective is to try to match the accomplishments of Alexander III the Great of Macedonia. You will need to lead Macedonia to victory over Persia and expansion into India.

Alexander offers only one campaign that is payable only as the Macedonians. Even on very difficult setting, the Persians don't defend their homeland very well. They send large armies with no commanders and leave practically no troops to defend the cities until the campaign is nearly over. Other than the new time period Alexander offers little and in many instances less than RTW. If you are a die-hard Total War fan you may still get this especially with the low cost of the download version, but all others should avoid.

I have experienced many crashes which seem to occur right before battles. I found that double clicking on one of the units and waiting till the camera stops moving before touching any keys avoids crashes. I would recommend saving prior to battles just in case. This games is not as stable as RTW or the Barbarian Invasion espansion.

Compared to the original game and the other expansion, its relatively short, and you can only play as one faction. Overall, I regret buying it for lack of content

Um i downloaded this game off this website and i would start the game, it would show the opening purple copyright screen. But then my normal mouse icon would pop up, it would make a little noise, and the game would not go on, and when i pressed space or somthin it would close. Idk if its cuz i hav the downloaded version of RTW, or what but it was a waste of my money and nothing on the internet has any solutions to this problem. so think b4 u download this cuz the same mite happen to you.
