Title says it all. No doubt, Romeo is bleeding, will truly haunt you long after the cd is finished. The movie is absolutely fascinating and to this day, I have never heard a more appropriate soundtrack to a film.

Mark Isham has a gift for capturing, even setting, moods. His pieces evoke feelings and moods. Not quite background music but not quite music you actively listen to, his music allows parts of us to arise, giving us pause to reflect, to wander, to dream.

This is the soundtrack for a great movie but the soundtrack stands on its own. It is exploratory and adventurous. There are several jazz/blues numbers on it but there is also some experimental music that is difficult to categorize. It is at once entrancing yet challening. That may sound a bit technical but the one word that describes the whole thing is 'cool', as in the jazz kind of cool.

There aren't many like this one to find. That's what makes it so good. If you are looking for some creative and different music, this is a great place to wander.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most lasting album in my collection, December 13, 2003
This review is from: Romeo Is Bleeding (1993 Film) (Audio CD)
I've had this album for almost ten years now, and I'm not tired of it. Great soundtrack for a great film. "Romeo Alone" is my favorite, but the album can be played straight through with few interruptions in mood (the dream sequences, etc.).
I highly recommend this album. It's consistently grown on me for the last ten years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute tops, January 17, 2002

The best score ever written for film noir--which automatically makes it one of the best scores period. It's right there with score for "Alexander Nevsky" as comprising a variety of melodies and songs that express the varying action and emotions of the story. Beuatiful and haunting Miles-like trumpet predominates.

this is a great album- it is filled with unexpected music injections of all genres. It is moody, emotional, relaxing, and excentric. I am sure that you will love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best song is missing!, February 25, 2011

Great, atmospheric soundtrack, truly haunting. My one major gripe is that they have every single track from the movie, even minor ones that play only momentarily, and yet they leave out my favorite one. The song that starts in quietly when Jack is watching the threesome through the binoculars and kicks in fully when it cuts to Sheri dancing for him. Such a great track and they didn't include it in the soundtrack. That track is what actually made me decide to finally spring for the album and is the only reason it doesn't get 5 stars from me. If anyone has that track or knows where it can be found that would be greatly appreciated!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Noir Trumpet in Any Film, March 14, 2010
This review is from: Romeo Is Bleeding (1993 Film) (Audio CD)
To me, this score really codifies what the "film noir" sound should be - that slow, moody, muted trumpet. I've searched in vain for similar stuff, but there's really nothing else quite like it. Better than Chinatown or other preceding noir scores. Isham also incorporates synths in places that enhance the overall sound. I wouldn't say the trumpeting is better than Miles Davis, but I do prefer the overall mood created by 'Romeo is Bleeding' over Davis.

Like other reviewers, I've had this in my collection since the mid '90s, and it likewise remains one of my favorite film scores.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pinnacle of 90's Neo-noirism, December 28, 2007
This review is from: Romeo Is Bleeding (1993 Film) (Audio CD)
I've read all the reviews posted before this. I wish I could take the best

parts of them and underline. Right now, however, there's one tidbit IMDb

had about Bon Jovi & 'Always' being slated for inclusion on the soundtrack.

Finding out that it was left off the project is certainly proof of a higher

power (in Hollywood). May this score forevermore be available on our earth!
