5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Students
I am a student who had to read this book and I couldn't understand most of the stuff Shakespeare was writing. We first started to read some other books with the Old English type writing and I got a C- in this class because I couldnt understand it. We just started reading Romeo and Juliet and I had the same problem so I bought this book. Boy, did it help me! I got an A...

3.0 out of 5 stars Romeo and Juliet
Have you ever wanted to be with someone but you couldn't because family was in the way? Or someone tells you that you that you couldn't see that person because that person was different then you. In Romeo and Juliet the families where enemies Romeo loved Juliet so much that he would sneak to Juliet's room to see her. He had to fight for her. Juliet said "Deny thy father...

Another feature which I liked was how the layout is put side-by-side so if you have to read during class, you'll be able to know where everyone is and if you dont understand it, just go to the other side.

5.0 out of 5 stars Romeo and Juliet (Shakespeare Made Easy; Parallel Edition), December 21, 2006

This was a great resource while teaching "Romeo and Juliet" last year to my English 1 students. I was able to explain the more difficult passages to them as we read along in the book. I wish that I had the money to purchase this book for all of my students. I plan to use it again this school year.

Before this book, my wife and I never enjoyed Shakespeare very much. This book makes the play perfectly clear, and with the side-by-side arrangement, makes the original poetry understandable and beautiful. We watched the play afterward and finally began to glimpse the wonder that is hidden within the words.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helper for Understanding, September 5, 2007
I bought this book for my high school Shakespeare class and found it to be the most helpful thing. With this book, you get a feel for what Shakespeare was saying in a language that you can understand. With my other Shakespeare books, I had to wait for my teacher to explain to us just what had happened in the lines we had just read. When I used this book, I understood the material before it was explained to me. I recommend this to anyone taking an Intro to Shakespeare class.

4.0 out of 5 stars Shakespeare Made Easy is great!, February 23, 2000
By A Customer
This book would be great for anyone who wants to read Shakespeare in their own free time or for someone who needs to read it for class! The modern English translation makes it easy to keep up with the story if you're ever lost in the Old English text (although sometimes their interpretation is a bit off, it's pretty accurate). If you're having doubts on which book to buy, buy this one!

4.0 out of 5 stars Got him interested!!, October 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this for an independent study assignment for my 16 year old grandson. The assignment was to read it and to create a daily written diary as if you were one of the characters. The book he started with was simply the original poetry, and he really struggled. Once we got this version, he used the plain English side of the pages to read the story, and was able to understand what was happening. While writing the diary pages, he used the plain English side to find his place, to re-read and understand, but he used the poetry side to obtain quotes for his characters. The result was an "A" on an assignment that he had initially felt he simply couldn't do. We will use this series of books again.
