Great book...for leisure reading or for school!,
This review is from: Romeo and Juliet: Side by Side (Side By Sides) (Paperback)
This book is great, it sets aside the difficulty that comes with reading Shakespear's Old English, and it especially great for school kids who have to read the book in class. They can translate the old english and it makes the words easier to understand. It literally has the Old English on one side and New English on the other! Great buy...Great Price! If you have to read Romeo and Juliet for school I recommend this book...if you want to read it simply for fun I still recommend it!

Used as a study guide for my son who is a high school freshman. The original text may as well be in another language. The side by side made it easy to interpret while still reading the original. Went from D's to A's.

If your child needs to endure Shakespeare, this book is invaluable! No Fear Shakespeare is also great, I'm sure, but I picked this one, and my daughter loved it. Side by side, page by page, silliness and normal. You can't go wrong! Why wasn't this available when I was a kid????

My daughter is 11 and in 6th Grade Honors English. They are reading "Midsummer" so I got this for her. She enjoyed reading the play so much that she asked me to get "Romeo and Juliet" ( the same "side by side" version as this one) for her, which I did. She is reading the "Romeo and Juliet" on her own for pleasure. These are good and helpful books for studying.

This book is exactly what my 10 year old needed in order to read Romeo and Juliet. As an adult reader, I also find it much easier to understand Shakespere with the modern translation next to the original version.

My classroom has a set of these, but bought one for myself to write notes in. This text, with the original language on the left and a more modern rendition on the right, is perfect for readers who aren't confident in their comprehension skills. The text also includes some great comprehension and analysis questions for each scene in the back.

Good translation of difficult-to-read Shakespeare,

I like this translation into lay terms of a Shakespearean classic. The only complaint I have is that each sentence is not translated word for word (or sentence for sentence). But, the gist and sentiment are translated paragraph by paragraph so any reader can understand what Romeo and Juliet are saying in their Middle English dialect.
