What you'd expect.,

Bought this. First time out of box, couldn't even cut an onion. I had the correct holding plate and blade installed correct side up. Quartered a normal yellow onion, and the machine crushed it instead of cutting it. I could get it to work with the larger grate if I literally put all my body weight on top of it. Piece of junk. I will be returning it.

The chopper pictured is the old version that I used for years with all metal blades. The one that arrived at my house had plastic encased blades. Granted I did give the thing a workout cutting fries the first day but I didn't expect the blades to explode all over the kitchen when the plastic casing around the blades broke. I contacted Ronco customer care via e-mail to see if I could purchase a new french fry blade and they did not respond. Recommend going on e-bay and purchasing a "vintage" model.

It's not the Veg-O-Matic it used to be,

My mom got one of these for a wedding gift. I'm 37 and it still works!Unfortunately, the item pictured is not what you get. The picture is of the original model. The metal cutting rings shown have been replaced with cheaper plastic rimmed ones. The plastic pins on the springs that make top pop up broke on the first potato. I'll still use it but this is no where near the quality product the original was. I've had a bunch of these slicers and they all require a lot of force for potatoes. But I've always found the Veg-o-Matic to be the easiest to use and clean.

"WORTHLESS" NEW & IMPROVED VEG-O-MATIC,

The NEW & IMPROVED VEG-O-MATIC may be new but it is not improved. The original model had all metal cutting rings. Mine lasted over 40 years until one of the rings' cutting blades finally broke. So I purchase the new model which is not like the picture shown. The new model has blades made from small pieces of metal set in a plastic case. The first time I used it the blades bent and came out in pieces. ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS.

If you look at the picture it is the old style Veg-o-Matic Chopper slicer thats the one that I wanted. What I got was the newand improved one that I already have and do not care for. Broke the firt time I tried it. We did have one of the old ones for years but it finaly just wore out. I saw the picture and could tell right away that it was the old style so I ordered it when it got here it was not what you have pictured (FALSELY ADVERTIZED). So we had a party at our house and we gave it away as a prize in a card game. So did I like the new style? NO Ronco FS100200GEN Veg-o-Matic Food Chopper and Slicer

The original Veg-o-matic is pictured, but when I received it it was a new (different) product. The blades were not configured to do what I wanted (i.e., scalloped potatoes, potato salad, potato soup). Ultimately I sent it back.

I have always loved the Veg-O-Matic; ever since I bought my first one back in 1960 but this one recently purchased from Amazon broke on the first try; one of the blades on the SLICE BLADE FOR TOMATO became detached during use. Maybe they should make them a little more robust instead of tinny or perhaps they should apply a little spot weld to keep the blades connected to the central rail; this would strengthen the assembly and prevent the problem I had. I called Ronco but they said they did not send out replacement parts for defective merchandise and told me to send it back to Amazon for replacement. Another thing, I have yet to discover how to remove TOP GRIP A so that I could insert TOP GRIP B to slice onions.

I grew up with this as our only potato slicer/ French fry maker (I'm 43 now.). I think my mom got over 25 years out of her first on before it finally cracked. She bought a second one about 10 years ago and it is still going strong. Yes, you have to put some weight on it to push the potatoes through, but it's just one big push and boom---sliced potatoes or French fries!

I've got one that I've had since the late 50's or early 60's & this new one is a piece of junk compaired to the old one. I just wish I could find new cutting blades for my old one.

I bought this as a less expensive alternative to the Williams Sonoma chopper a friend had (and raved about). This was very difficult for me to use. Ended up putting it back in the box and now it lives on a shelf in the basement. It's not something I would recommend.
