The good and the bad,

This review is from: Ronco KN3005BLGEN Rocker 20-Piece Knife and Wooden Block Set (Kitchen)
Amazon invited every customer to review purchased products, so here is mine. I only list the good and the bad.
Let me mention the good aspects of this knife set first: 1. You do get 20 knives, and some of them are usable. 2. The Rocker and the Cheese knife in my set were sharp out of the box. 3. The Rocker's handle partially extends to the top of the blade, making cutting hard food such as potatoes easier because you can push down on the part of the handle that's over the blade. Wish the Rocker's blade were at least one inch longer, and thicker. 4. The Cheese knife can be used as a light 6" santoku. 5. The bread knife, the sports man's knife and the 6 steak knives in my set have reverse-scalloped edges, which cut without tearing. Quite nice. 6. They have not rusted or stained after being lightly used for a month. 7. The blades are polished to almost mirror-like. Now the bad: 1. All knives in this set, with the exception of the cleaver, are very flimsy. The blades are so thin that they can't even cut straight when the food is hard, such as potatoes and carrots. And if you use the pinch hold to hold these knives, your fingers could be hurt because of the thin spine. The Rocker and the cheese knife are reasonably sturdy thanks to their shorter and wider blades. 2. Most of the knives are not sharp. My "Showtime knife" actually has flat segments on its edge (on those reverse-scalloped "wave" tops)! 3. The fit and finish of handles are not good, and some sharp corners of the tangs could hurt user's hands. 4. The handle style is not uniform for the set. In fact, there are two handle styles, with the main difference being the butt of the handles. 5. Water can get in between the tangs and the plastic parts of the handles. This is not sanitary. 6. It's difficult to do precision cutting, such as fine Julienning carrots, with these knives. They are simply too flimsy and not sharp enough. 7. Due to the above short comings, I placed this set behind a 4-knife forged cutlery set, and use these knives only occasionally.

I bought this item because of all the great review. I got it last week in the mail and was so excited to use it. It turned out that it wasn't as great as everyone said. I like to cook a lot and these knives are so flimsy that I could not even cut a cabbage with it. If you cook a lot and want something with good qulaity, spend a little more money on something better.

I bought this "Very dull" knife set for my husband for christmas. Our knives were getting pretty dull, and the reviews on the Ronco set were pretty good. The price is cheap, but the knives are "cheap" too. In this situation, you definetly get what you pay for! They look like they are heavy duty, but they are just made uf lightweight plastic.
