4.0 out of 5 stars Great product with but one serious fault
On March 4, 2010, my Rotisserie arrived, and it performed as advertised, doing an especially good job on salmon and chicken breasts. It is, as advertised, ideal for the small house or apartment with but one person, or maybe two if they eat lightly. The one difficulty that I encountered was that it was hard to open and close the non-stick wire basket. Nevertheless, I used...

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing capacity, no self turning kabob rods

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing capacity, no self turning kabob rods, November 16, 2009

This review is from: Ronco ST2000SSGEN Showtime Petite Rotisserie, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
Thinking this was just a slightly smaller size than the "compact" model, I ordered it from Amazon before it was available at the local stores I frequent. I was mislead by the product description and disappointed to find this petite model only has a one pound capacity, and expects everything to be cooked inside the metal basket. (The compact model on the other hand is rated with a ten pound capacity, can hold things on the spit, without a "basket", and can use the self-turning kabob rods, which are sometimes included in a package and sometimes sold separately.)

There were no self turning rods listed in manual of what is packed inside, or available from the manufacturer as an option, or on the box artwork, but the one pound capacity was clearly stated in the manual. I'm afraid I could easily overfill the basket over the weight limit. A pre-packaged marinated turkey breast tenderloin for example is 30oz or about two pounds... a frozen package of 4 beef or chicken kabobs is 24oz, about a pound and a half.

I also figure the basket might be more difficult to clean than I wanted if I stuck the kabobs in there and definitely not as interesting to watch as self turning ones would have been...

Nevertheless, I used it about four or five times a week to prepare my evening meal and was quite pleased with the results. Then, about six-weeks later, on March 19, the weld broke on the round protruding bar on the right-hand side of the wire basket that is inserted into the hole in the side in order to rotate. That irritated me no end. Then, to add insult to injury the 800 number (800-486-1806)telephone number printed on the back of the instruction booklet is not a working numer and the email address listed below it ([...]) also doesn't work. Seems as Ronco was sold to another outfit after the instruction manual was printed. My purpose in trying to contact them is not to return the product, but just to order a new wire basket, that's how highly I think of oven. Bottom line: the wire basket is poorly designed on an otherwise well-executed product. I will have check around on the Internet for the email address/phone number of the new corporate owner. If I can't locate it, or if they want an arm and a leg to ship me a new wire basket, I'm even thinking of spending another [...] to buy another oven, even though all I need is the wire basket.
RECOMMENDATION: If you truly need a very small rotisserie over(sub-compact, and not compact), and are good with your hands and can open and close the wire basket better than I could, this is a splendid product. Fron what I can tell, the compact over is more durable and there is no need to use a wire basket. The only proble is that it's much larger and weighs 20 lbs, vs 8 lbs for the Shotime Petite Rotisserie. It's like buying a size 12 shoe when all you need to fit comfortably is a size 9.

I think all the Ronco rotisseries are good. This one is smaller than I thought and I would suggest that it be recommended for a single person or a college student. I'm keeping it, however I'm upgrading to the next size for my kids. The Petite Rotisserie dose a great job. It's well worth the money, which is not too expensive.

1.0 out of 5 stars Piece of Junk!, January 17, 2010
This review is from: Ronco ST2000SSGEN Showtime Petite Rotisserie, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
Got this as a Christmas present and just used it (or tried to use it) today...1/17/10. I have heard so many great things about this product and was EXTREMELY disappointed in this particular version. To start, when I went through the box and accessories for the first time, I found out no instruction manual or advertised instruction DVD was inside. I guess this was missed in packaging, but I was willing to overlook this thinking I could just order online...no big deal. When I went to set it on kitchen counter, a screw that helps hold bottom pan assembly in place just fell right out. The threading for the screw was stripped, so screw would not stay in place. The tabs that hold top of basket in place were bent...I bent these back into place, but they still didn't stick out far enough from basket to safely use when mounted on the rotisserie. To Top everything off, the heating element did not work. I though maybe it had to heat up for awhile, so I gave it 20 minutes to see if it would heat up...nothing, nada, zip!! The setting was correct, it wasn't pause and sear or rotate with no heat. All in all, very cheaply constructed and a poor product. I guess you have to spring for the bigger, better more expensive units but this has me totally turned off of Showtime. I hope I can return as like I mentioned earlier, this was a Christmas gift. Who knows, maybe it was re-gifted to me???
