Book Description

August 12, 2010 Sprinters
A cautionary tale by the author of "The Stone Mouse" and the Smarties Book Prize-winning "The Snow Spider". Ronnie Stiltskin is given a new pair of boots for his seventh birthday, and from that moment he can't stop stamping. Peanuts, grapes, stones, molehills, flower-pots - Ronnie stamps on everything, making a terrible noise and upsetting everyone. His mother reminds him what happened to his ancestor, Rumplestiltskin, who stamped his way right through the floor. But Ronnie won't listen. He just carries on putting his foot down, squashing and smashing. But one night he goes too far. Jenny Nimmo is the author of "The Snow Spider" (winner of the 1986 Smarties Book Prize), "Emlyn's Moon", "The Chestnut Soldier" and "The Stone Mouse" (commended for the 1994 Carnegie Medal) David Parkins is the illustrator of "Sophie's Snail", "Sophie's Tom", "Sophie Hits Six", "Sophie in the Saddle", "Sophie is Seven" and Sophie's Lucky", "Prowlpuss" (shortlisted for the 1994 Kurt Maschler Award), "No Problem" (shortlisted for the 1994 Nottinghamshire Children's Book Award) and "Tick Tock".

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Ronnie is a totally believable character... as well as being extremely well written, the book is attractively presented with... lots of humorous line drawings, speech bubbles and short chapters. An excellent first novel for eight-year-olds to read themselves." The School Librarian. "A humorous moral tale attractive to beginner readers."
