Key broke off in lock!,

I hadn't unlocked the bars for about 8 months and they had been exposed to very little moisture (southern NM). When I turned the lightweight aluminum key to unlock the bars it unexpectedly snapped off at the edge of the key hole. This made it nearly impossible to get the key out, and I only have one key. Although the rack and crossbars are still functional, it defeats the advantage of having a secure system. Also, at about 45 mph the bars issue a loud whistling sound. I don't recommend this product.

For the price you will pay, don't expect much.
The system to lock the cross bar to your roof bars, is not optimum, and very difficult to install. The bars are light aluminium, look great, but are highly flexible. Something you would like to avoid on your roof. Moreover, the locking system does not tighten the cross bars properly, they can slide from left to right when driving. So, I guess you got my point, don't buy these.... spend 3-4 time the price and get proper cross bars from thule or yakima. |
