Kid's Toy + Tetris = Challenging and Entertaining Budget Title,
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Roogoo Attack (Video Game)
Roogoo Attack is a DS remake of the Xbox Live Arcade title Roogoo. It takes the concept of a toddler's shape sorter and turns it into a Tetris-style experience. While this sounds simple in theory, in practice it is a fresh puzzle idea that will challenge both kids and adults alike.
The object of the game is to guide color-coded shapes into their proper holes. In a typical level the shapes will drop down through three or four shape sorters, and players will have to rotate the shape sorter so the shape falls in correctly. To keep things interesting, each level changes the formula in some way: some levels send multiple shapes at a time, some levels send stacks of shapes, some levels introduce obstacles of special conditions, and some levels discard the shapes entirely in favor of color-coded hens or non-colored treasure chests. As a result, the game's 100+ levels all feel unique or different in some way, which gives this game a long lifespan. It's also a great pick-up-and-play game for people who like puzzlers and don't have a lot of time. The game has three challenge levels. The easiest setting is pretty easy and is suitable for kids. The hardest level is absolutely insane, especially later in the game, and can overwhelm even seasoned gamers. (Don't let the kiddie premise fool you there.) The middle level, predictably, is a nice middle ground that may still be a bit hard for kids. In short, this is a game with a wide audience. As an aside, the game also mixes things up with an occasional skydiving level, where the object is to guide a character to the surface. These are mostly changeup levels but they are also fun. If there is any criticisms, they lie in the story (weak) and the inability to create multiple profiles on the game. The game does compensate, though, with local Wi-Fi (your opponent doesn't even need a copy of the game) and connectivity with the Wii game Roogoo: Twisted Towers to unlock more levels. If puzzlers are your thing and you're looking for a cheap one, you won't go wrong with this one.

I got this game based on the other review and I am glad I did. At first, I thought it was going to be real simple, you know, like the childs toy. Boy, was I wrong. It gets pretty advanced and is very challenging. I am up to a level now that I can't even get through the beginning of it but I take it as a challenge and I like it.
It is like the childs toy, where you fit the shaped blocks through the holes but in this game, they come flying at you and you have to fit them pretty fast by turning the base. It's pretty straightforward. I am having a problem with one thing in the game and I can't seem to find out anything in the book so I am going to look on the internet but besides that, everything is self explainatory. If you like a straight forward game, that is challenging, this is it.

Not much to this game: I equate it with tetris or some of the touchmaster style games. It is silly and surprisingly difficult as you try to line up the holes with the desired falling item. I especially like the nesting chicken "pieces" that you must assemble. For the price ($10) it's a nice little game to keep around.
