Nifty soundtrack,
By
This review is from: The Rookie (Audio CD)
There are a lot of good tunes used in the uplifting soundtrack for "The Rookie", and a few are not on this soundtrack, notably House of Pain's "Jump Around"(played after the team wins the championship),and the Elvis gospel song "Run On".The remaining stuff is all terrific, especially John Hiatt's great "Slow Turning", and John Fogerty's wistful "Blue Moon Night". A nifty baseball movie, and a nifty soundtrack.

Elvis Song,
By David Dooley (Arlington, TN USA) - See all my reviews

The Elvis Song in the movie "The Rookie" is called "Run On" It's a gospel song Elvis did in the 60's. I wish it was on this Soundtrack. EP Enterprises may have not granted permission to put it on the soundtrack. Who knows? It's a great upbeat Gospel song. Elvis Gospel songs are excellent. I recommend - "Elvis Presley - Amazing Grace" The Double CD collection - if you are looking for that Song

I'd buy it for any of five songs alone...,

not to mention Burwell's beautiful Celtic-tinged background music. The five songs, in order: "There is a Light" by Duane Jarvis; "Some Dreams" by Steve Earle, "Stuff That Works" by Guy Clark; "Shining" by Eileen Rose and "Baby I Ain't Gotta Do That No More" by Paul Burch. All great songs, all stand on their own. Throw in John Hiatt, Willie Nelson, John Fogerty and the peripatetic Ryan Adams, and you've got a CD that will stand up to repeated listens. I don't know who put the thing together, with all these stellar Nashville artists, but it is much appreciated. See the movie; the Burwell cuts are much shorter, and it's all worth hearing on a theatre sound system.

A real boot-tapper,

I find this soundtrack almost addictive. I love John Fogerty's version of "Blue Moon Night." Eileen Rose is amazing, and Willie is a welcome old friend. Your moods can go way up and way down listening to this stuff, a cool roller-coaster ride. When I feel like two-stepping, this is what I want to listen to.

A Possibly Overlooked Masterpiece,
By

"The Rookie" soundtrack is a wonderful blend of tone, talent, and absolute musical sincerity. There's hardly a manufactured or false note on the album. I thoroughly enjoyed the tracks mentioned by the previous reviewer and, in addition, I really liked Allison Moorer's song, "Tumbling Down." I've listened to the album several times now and find myself liking something else each time. A wonderful compilation.

I'm not typically a consistent C&W fan but love the songs here..they fit the scenes, especially Willie Nelson's Nothin' I Can Do About It Now and really love John Fogerty's Blue Moon Nights. Love these songs! Whenever I watch the movie, can't wait for these scenes!

i ve just watched this movie for the first time and now i am interested in the soundtrack. some artists i knew, the others i didn't and wanted to know the singers and song titles. the overall soundtrack complements the location of the movie and the action of the characters. i feel like i just visited texas!
as an elvis fan, i was thrilled to hear Run On used. but it's missing from this recording. the first reviewer here (from 2002) correctly identifies it, and he also identified the song in the celebratory locker room. for those who liked Run On, there are different versions of Elvis' gospel music out there. As for the House of Pain song, I will be looking for that. i know listening to the cd will continue to remind me of this great movie.

The name of the song when they are celebrating in the locker room is called 'jump around' originally by House of Pain. It is also in the movie from1993 called mrs doubtfire. This is a wonderful movie and can be enjoyed by the entire family. I highly recommend it!! |
