4.0 out of 5 stars Room to Breathe
ZOEgirl's 4th studio disc won't necessarily win you over immediately. Relying closely on the pop-rock stylings of their previous release, Different Kind of Free, this cd is a steady grower rather than an instant hit. The members of ZOEgirl continue to unapologetically minister to their fans and seekers alike. First single "About You" (co-written with Pete Kipley and...

What makes this album "Christian" and not secular? Is it the absence of trashy lyrics, replaced by themes of self-confidence, self-assurence, and self-praise? My sister plays this all the time and it drives me batty. I love Christian rock when it's quality stuff, but this is not quality. It's not unique and it's not inspiring. First single "About You" (co-written with Pete Kipley and Shaun Shankel, who've also worked with Kara Williamson & produced by Shankel) puts the focus squarely on God by proudly proclaiming "I'll lay down my pride/ `cause You laid down Your life." The sassy "Dead Serious" invites skeptics to experience the joy of belief, and "Scream", contrary to its title, offers quiet reflection throughout its verses. "Skin Deep", penned by Kristin, picks up where 2001's "Plain" left off. These three numbers, produced by Stacie Orrico collaborators Mark Heimermann and Tedd T respectively, are some of the most memorable. "Forevermore" is appropriately uplifting and worshipful. While Room to Breathe may not be the best ZOEgirl album, it offers plenty of comfort as Alisa, Chrissy, and Kristin's sweet harmonies invite you to experience something more important than yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, August 10, 2005
This review is from: Room to Breathe (Audio CD)
This is one of the best Christian CD's I have ever owned and I have several. Many reviewers compare Zoegirl with Jump5 but this Zoegirl CD is much better than any of Jump5's in my opinion. There are several great songs on this CD that seem to get better the more you listen to them. I highly recomend buying this CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars ZOEgirl Does it Again!, March 25, 2005
This review is from: Room to Breathe (Audio CD)
ZOEgirl's latest release, Room to Breathe, is one of the best ZOEgirl titles. It will win you over from the first song, reason to live.
**Reason to Live**
A great song, with all of the classic sounds of ZOEgirl, along with a new flavor unique to this album. Not the best song, but one of the better ones.
**Dead Serious**
My favorite song, Dead Serious is a song that will make you get up on your feet when you listen to it. A combonation of rock and dance, this one is my favorite on the CD.
**About You**
A fun song, there is not much to say about this one. You just have to listen to it.
**Scream**
A slow song, this one is really one of the best. It asks if anyone sees you, with an answer at the end that everyone will love.
**Forevermore**
A fast song, really quickening up the pace after the slow Scream, this one will be sure to make you "lift up your eyes."
**The Way You Love Me**
This is a really great song, with a sound that is new to ZOEgirl, this song will make you listen. Not one of the best, but still worth listning to.
**Let it Out**
This song is fast and fun, my second favorite on the disc. It is much like the song "Feel Alright" from Different Kind of Free.(I've told you before, tell me to be quiet and I'll shout some more)
**Good Girl**
If there is one worth skipping on this CD, this is the one. It is ok, but seems like it keeps going and going. This is a good song if you can sit through it.
**Not the One**
This is a good song. The style is purely ZOEgirl, with the awesome guitar parts, this song is worth listening to.
**Skin Deep**
This song seems like a snoozer at the begining, but as you listen to it, it just keeps getting better. I reccomend giving this song a chance.
**Safe**
An excellent song for the end of the CD, Safe is a great song, with great vocals. It starts out slow, but grows as you listen to it. A great song.

I reccomend this CD to anyone interested in Christian music. ZOEgirl continues to be my favorite group. A great CD!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Better and Better, July 5, 2005
This review is from: Room to Breathe (Audio CD)
I agree with "Wrinksis" that the album has to grow on you. I think it has to because "Different Kind of Free" was such a great album it was hard for the band to top that. I didn't think that they could do it myself. But as I started listening to it it grew on me. I Feel that both "Different Kind of Free" and "Room to Breathe" demonstrate a new depth reached by the band. It shows a genuine ethos for the human condition not hitherto revealed by the group. I think that the lyrics have always been unique, catchy, and cutting edge, witness "Dismisssed, "Plain", "In the Nick of Time". But I think in both of these albums there is a mixture of deep lyrics and variation, creative instrumentality and rythem. My favorites are "Life to Me" and "Skin Deep".

5.0 out of 5 stars ZOEgirl just gets better every time!, April 1, 2005
This review is from: Room to Breathe (Audio CD)
Recently, a friend of mine was sort of teasing me (I was doing it too) about how I had every single ZOEgirl CD, because every time they came out with one, I always ended up liking it. Then, I told her, "well, they have a new one coming out", and then she told me, "well, I guess you're gonna end up getting that one too". She was right. It's been a while since I've listened to ZOEgirl and I didn't think I'd find much interest in them again. After reviewing samples about twice, I finally decided I liked this album, and then I liked it a lot. I just bought it today, and I absolutely love it more than I thought I would! ZOEgirl always seems to get better each time they release a new album. Let me review the songs...

Reason To Live: A perfect opening to the album. It puts a good impression on the album, and should interest you. It has a wonderful tune and vocals. You will find immediately in the song that ZOEgirl has matured very much since their other releases. ZOEgirl always knows how to begin their albums.

Dead Serious: A fun, sassy tune with a good message. It's different, but still carries a classic ZOEgirl sound. It's about holding on to your faith, even when people say you're crazy. Its got a great sound where rock and dance blend nicely together.

About You: The first song off the album to score into a hit. My favorite song on the album. The chorus kind of resembles Avril Lavigne's hit "Complicated", but still carries a sound that is perfectly ZOEgirl. Great song!

Scream: My favorite song on the album (on the same level with "About You"). Amazing, beautiful song. The lyrics are incredibly deep and powerful all the way through. Alisa really did an amazing job writing this song, and singing it. One of ZOEgirl's best songs ever!

Forevermore: A wonderful worship song. The vocals really hit it again. The lyrics are great, and so is the tune and the sound. Highly recommended!

The Way You Love Me: Opened nicely with Kristin's vocals, this is one of the slower songs, but it's still great. Very good vocals! Great tune and music.

Let It Out: After calming down a bit with "The Way You Love Me", the beat really kicks up a few notches! Very fun song! Very fun heavy guitar and tune. ZOEgirl always has some great fun songs that are hard to miss out on. Again, very, very fun song!

Good Girl: This is a good song, but not my favorite. On almost every album, there's bound to be a song that isn't such a score. Most of the sound of this song really resembles an earlier ZOEgirl song called "Inside Out", from their 2003 album "Different Kind Of Free".

Not The One: Cool song! Certainly my kind of sound. Not incredibly fast, but great rhythm and feel.

Skin Deep: Very great song! A good amount of Rebecca St. James influence was put into this song (it reminds me somehow of her song "Give Myself Away", from her 1998 album "Pray"). Chrissy's vocals mature a lot on this one. Awesome style and sound! Highly recommended!

Safe: Very great song. ZOEgirl always carries their own style, but always somehow makes it a bit different on every album. This is an awesome song, and a great ending track. ZOEgirl is awesome with beginning and ending their albums! My other favorite song on the album

I have to say that ZOEgirl REALLY scored this time. The reason why I have all of their albums is because every new album is getting better and better. Like I said earlier, I thought for a while that ZOEgirl wasn't really my thing anymore, but I'm glad I like them again. I can see ZOEgirl will be getting great success from beginning to end (and I don't even know when they'll end!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!, August 29, 2006

Oh my goodness, zoegirl just keeps getting better and better with every new album they make! This is their 5th album if you count their remix album. It's also about time I wrote a review about this because I got this CD last April (I know, long time ago)! Anyway, it's a very great CD, very uplifting music, and I think we can all learn from it, too. It's very great christain music that a lot of christains would love.

1. Reason to live - 9/10 A really good beginning! Zoegirl always knows how to beging their album, and this song is very encouraging.

2. Dead serious - 10/10 Wow, this is a very pop, dancy song! Chrissy's voice in the chorus is amazing, I like her the best. This song is also really cool to sing along to, and it's very energetic.

3. About you - 10/10 A very great single! They need to make a video of this song sometimes, it would be interesting to see what it's like, and the lyrics are so true

4. Scream - 10/10 Oh, this song is so beautiful! It's so encouraging and uplifting, it's a very sweet song written by Alisa. And you definitely don't have to scream for God to hear your prayers!

5. Forevermore - 10/10 This song is also mainly sang by Alisa, at least in the chorus, which is by far the best part of this song! It talks about how our Lord Jesus Christ is forevermore Holy, and that He reigns all the earth.

6. The way You love me - 9/10 This song is also very sweet, but I gave it 9 out of 10 because it's a little too slow of a song for my taste. But I still like it a lot, because the lyrics are important to know.

7. Let it out - 10/10 Ok, this song is EXACTLY the opposite of the previous one! It is very upbeat and energetic, and also a very short song he he.

8. Good girl - 10/10 This one is great too! I didn't like it TOO much when I first heard it, but now I think it's really cool, especially with Chrissy singing the chorus so well!

9. Not the one - 10/10 Cool! Chrissy sings the whole song, and it sounds great! She and Alisa wrote it, and it talks about how they changed themselves completely, and that they became christains and finally stopped taking advice from wicked people and all.

10. Skin deep - 10/10 My favorite song on the whole CD! This is a very sweet and true song that Kristen wrote, and she has a very pretty voice when singing this (the whole song is sang by her), and the tune is so beautiful. We are definitely soooooo much more than skin deep!

11. Safe - 10/10 A perfect ending to this album. It really is because it talks about us christains spending eternity with God in Heaven, and that if you believe in Christ as your Saviour, you're safe, and that's what the world will be like in the end, which is why this is such a perfect ending to the album!

Anyway, there you have it! Those reasons listed above are the reasons why I love this album. I REALLY hope the make another album, but I'm not sure they will, and if they don't, I'll miss them and their music sooooooo much! It's always so nice to pop in one of their CD's (I own them all) and listen to their voices, hearing them sing their praises to the Lord! So, if you like Christain music, I urge you to buy this CD, it's great! And if there are any non-christains reading my interview who don't know the Lord, please buy this CD and see if you like it. And if you do, I hope it will change your heart and that you will get to know Christ someday. Trust me, it's definitely worth it!

We need to stop making stuff that's just a "notch" above secular music. We need to stop comparing ourselves to anybody and just write and sing from the heart.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not their best, June 26, 2005
This review is from: Room to Breathe (Audio CD)
Okay I Absolutley ADORE ZOEgirl and im not even religious. This was not their best cd though, honestly i can only fully enjoy 2 songs "Let it out"and "Scream", but then aagin i always end up liking the whole cd after more listens. "Different Kind of Free" was by far the best cd theyve released, followed by "Life". ZOEgirl will always be one of my top fav artists, i just wish some of their songs didnt sound so similar, and they could do some more pop stuff, not just rock.
