5.0 out of 5 stars Acknowledge your need for a haven!
This book is lovely and speaks to women everywhere. When the pressures of life build up and we need to feel safe and warm, there is nothing like a space of our own with all our favorite things and colors in it. This book shares ideas and inspiration, from decorating small spaces and outdoor tents (really),to the positive changes that have come about when women honor...

3.0 out of 5 stars not really for the every day woman
the photographs were lovely and so were the spaces, although personally not what i would want to live in, but i, too was disappointed with the fact that the only women profiled were super-wealthy, already famous personas. what about the millions of every day women out there who are truly inspirations and whose lives are much more relevant to the rest of us?

This book shares ideas and inspiration, from decorating small spaces and outdoor tents (really),to the positive changes that have come about when women honor themselves with their own haven. Buy this book if you are looking for a "deeper" decorating experience. Oh, just buy this book because it's wonderful!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Room of My Own, January 23, 2001
Wonderful book! A friend of mine loaned me her copy, but I had to go out and buy one for myself. Beautiful photography and inside stories about women who were brave enough to carve out their own space and call it that, "Mine!'. Many women I know would love to find the courage to do this, but don't. We all need a little corner to call our very own. I have one now thanks to Ms. Casson Madden. I'm surrounded by items which inspire and motivate me to do, think, and be my best.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Although I read a tremendous amount, and purchase many books, I have never written an on-line review - until now. I just needed to let other women know what a very special book this is. Not only are the photographs beautiful, but the stories, and the women are inspirational. I have already begun purchasing copies as birthday gifts for all the women in my life!

4.0 out of 5 stars Only a practical guide if you're wealthy, January 23, 1998
By A Customer
The book was well-written and the photos were lovely. I was disappointed, however, to find that the lives of ordinary women with ordinary incomes were not covered. Most of the women are famous in some way and are quite well off financially. I'd like to see Alexandra Stoddard do a similar book. I think it would be more down to Earth.

5.0 out of 5 stars A room within myself, December 28, 2001
By A Customer
How many woman have a room within themself? How wonderful to actually be able to materialize that very room. This book shows the love, peace, energy and spirit of a room by the owner. It
encouraged me to explore and create my personal space.
Thank you for a book that sits next to my bed.

5.0 out of 5 stars I like it, March 3, 1998
I have enough of the ordinary in my life. These women have already inspired me with their work; this book allows me to glimpse something more intimate about them. It is because the women who created these spaces are so gifted that I care about them - this is another opportunity to draw inspiration from their example.

5.0 out of 5 stars It is not an ordinary design book!, March 23, 2000
By
I found this book under the category of interior design and I purchased this book for getting some ideas for my bedroom design. But what it presents is much more than any design book can offer! While it is true that the book does not contain many "ordinary women" profiles, it also shows that extraordinary women, no matter where they live, what their life styles or goals are, they are extraordinary because the way they viewed their lives and cherished their personal spaces.

5.0 out of 5 stars I 'escaped with this book and loved it!, September 12, 2000
Not what a 'typical' decorating book is but it was a wonderful book. If you are looking for a decorating book, it will give you ideas, but it is much more than that. This book is a look into other womens lives and personal spaces. It gives you ideas for your own personal space by showing you what some have done. Creativity is in all of us. The ideas and examples given in this book are fantastic. Your creativity will flow after reading this book and looking at all of the beautiful pictures.

2.0 out of 5 stars Guess I'm not a real girl, July 30, 2011

My husband and I are building a new home and our architect recommended we pick up copies of this book and one called 'Manspace'. This one did exactly nothing for me, I didn't like the decor much... appreciated it but it's not me and it seemed more about decor than anything else. I actually liked Manspace a great deal better. So yes, the book is full of expensive looking personal female spaces with shots that showed little else in the room but the decor which did not help me think through how to do my office / craft room. For me, it was a useless book.
