AN ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR MS. SAGAL!,
By
This review is from: Room (Audio CD)
When people think of Katey Sagal... they think of Peg Bundy! Or Cate Hennessey from 8 Simple Rules. What I don't think they know is how incredible Ms. Sagal can sing!Ten years has passed since Ms. Sagal's last release, "Well...". That was a beautiful CD that I listen to over and over again. After listening to "Room" a couple of times, I can tell this I will play this CD many, many times as well. "Heaven is..." is a beautiful, haunting song and I love to hear Ms. Sagal sing it. Daddy's Girl (which she performed in part on 8 Simple Rules) is also beautiful, And "Feel a Whole Lot Better" is worth a mention too. Every song on this recording is an accomplishment for the lovely Ms. Sagal. I strongly urge you to buy it. I would also like to mention the tasteful "thanks" in the liner notes to the cast of 8 Simple Rules and to John Ritter. There is no mention of his untimely death but the "thank you" gave me chills none the less.

Truly Impressed,

I bought Katey's first album, "Well," when it was released in 1994. Now 10 years later, Katey has delivered the album that should have been her debut. Her voice is strong and unique. The song selections are all excellent choices for her. And she displays maturity that is lacking in today's artists. Too bad not enough people will give this album the chance it deserves. It is well worth the $15.

Pleasant Surprise!,

If you're thinking about buying this CD--buy it! You won't be disappointed. I liked the song, Daddy's Girl which she sang on "8 Simple Rules" and bought the CD for the song. Surprised she didn't mention James Garner in the notes. He saved the series! Back to music: It's a blend of folk, country, and a little rock 'n roll. My favorites are: I'll be Long Gone, Catch the Wind and Wish I Were a Kid Again! Well done!

Who knew?,
This review is from: Room (Audio CD)
Like many people, I have been watching Katey Sagal on television for years and knew she was a great comedic actor and have recently discovered her dramatic chops through guest spots on such shows as Lost & Boston Legal. But very recently, I have experienced her incredible singing talent, too.
I first found Katey on Scott Dreier's self-titled cd on their version of "Suddenly, Seymour" from the Broadway musical "Little Shop of Horrors".(check it out. Also a great album.) The beautiful blend of their voices and the ability of these two fine actors to put across the lyric makes this an amazing cut; and led me to Katey's "Room" which is a great mix of original tunes and solid covers. Her voice is easy and strong at the same time. A former Harlette (back-up singer for Bette Midler), this woman is a seasoned performer and it comes through on this great cd.

Katey Sagal handles her voice well. Yes, there are singers with better voices, but she has an excellent selection of songs and performs them very well. This is a very tasteful and well executed album. This is skillful, enjoyable music. This is now one of my favorite albums. I can think of famous female singers with more vocal talent whose albums are not as enjoyable. This album has style.

It is a shame no one is going to hear this cd....It's really Good. Like her 1994 Cd "Well", Sagal has a most interesting group of songs that well worth the price of the cd. Shame well quality music goes unheard, Britany tops the charts........

I never expected the woman I'd seen on TV to have such a voice! Fascinating to listen to.

One of the best voices out there,

All good songs made even better by a brilliant vocalist, with alot of power and range. Very interesting "cover" selections, including "Heaven Is Ten Zillion Light Years Away" by Stevie Wonder, "Catch The Wind" by Donovan Leitch, "(For The Love Of) Money" by Gamble/Huff/Jackson [O'Jays], and "Lovin' Arms" by Tom Jams [Elvis Presley, Brenda Lee, others]. Yet they don't overshadow Katey's original lyrics on this CD.
Jazz-based Bass is perfectly mixed and works famously with Sagal's electrifying dynamics, though the accompaniment crowds her throughout the "Room".

Peggy Bundy...who knew she could sing!!,
By Anonymous "Country Music Fan" (Country Music, USA) - See all my reviews

Wow...I always associated Katey Sagal with Peggy Bundy, and even when she's out of character, just seeing her name makes me think, "Peggy Bundy," which probably isn't the best image to portray. Anyhow, Peggy Bundy...which is the ultimate symbol of the achievement of feminism, is a heroic character based on her refusal to cooperate and submit to the demands of her husband.
Since I always believed that Katey Sagal was Peggy Bundy, I didn't know that she could do anything other than act silly (which is definitely a talent). Anyhow, this CD sounds very good...I would say that she's right up there with some of the leading singers of today (e.g. Carrie Underwood, Faith Hill, etc.) and the music is a cross between popular and country, which creates almost a country-rock feel (very nice). An enjoyable CD, easy listening, and a good addition to your collection.

As much as I hate to admit it I didn't know Katey sang until quite recently. I was pleasantly surprised at both the uniqueness of her voice as well as its expressed emotion. I would say this CD as a whole has been done quite well. Clean crisp production and great songwriting, coupled with Sagal's raspy soulful vocal styling. I, like many others would say the reason I purchased this CD was entirely based on the first time I heard "Daddy's Girl." I was drawn to the contemporary feel of the melody and am quite happy with my purchase.
