Book Description

May 29, 2007
Olivia Callender needs a wake-up call. With a hundred-year-old hotel to rehabilitate, a staff of lovable eccentrics to marshal, and guests to keep happy, she has no one to blame but herself for daydreaming through the past few years - or her uncle's threat to take over the hotel. And Rhys Spencer isn't helping. When the sexy British chef checked in, Olivia's common sense checked out. She doesn't have time to let him distract her, even if he is feeding her hottest fantasies. But the heat they create together is too much to resist, and when they spend a luscious night in his bed, Olivia truly wakes up for the first time - only to realize just what a mess her beloved hotel is. Throw in a pair of bumbling saboteurs, a cranky exballerina, a gorilla costume, a lovesick writer, and turkey for fifty, and Olivia has her work cut out for her. All of which might be easier than convincing a certain brash Brit that he needs to wake up, too - and realize that he's hungry for her love...

More About the Author

I've been writing since I was a kid. What strikes me as amusing now is that a lot of those early stories were de facto romances, which is what I'm writing now. Of course, the books I'm writing now also include a mystery -- what plot isn't embellished by a dead body, right?

Just the facts? Born in Delaware, and currently living in upstate New York (waaaaay upstate -- near Canada, in fact). I've always written, but there were a lot of jobs along the way -- video store clerk, nanny, local newspaper writer, and day camp counselor among them. "Mom" is my other big job -- I have three kids -- and I've got a wonderful husband who doesn't seem to mind that I write about romance, sex, and murder.

I can't wait to read another book by Amy Garvey. Room Service was a delightful, feel good story to read. The characters are likable from the very beginning & you will hate to see the story end. It's a nice mix of humor, friendship, passion and love. You will not be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Room Service - Amy Garvey, September 6, 2011

Enjoyable light fiction, but not as good as her Hot Date novel. Garvey has a light hand on the story, interspersed with flashes of humour, and the characters are believeablo except for her attempt to use 'English' language idiosyncracies to flesh out the hero. Didn't quite come off but nevertheless did not detract too much from the overall storyline. I look forward to more from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars A delightful contemporary romance, June 10, 2007
This review is from: Room Service (Mass Market Paperback)
In New York City, Olivia Callender knows it will be difficult, but she obsesses over saving her family home where she grew up, the century old hotel Callender House. However, she ignores the truth that the place is falling apart and probably should be condemned; it will take a lot of capital to renovate the once glamorous hotel.

Renowned British chef Rhys Spencer checks into the hotel. As Olivia tries to save her inheritance, she is upset with her uncle who she believes has nefarious plans to take control of Callender House from his "addlebrained" niece. However, as she and Rhys fall in love, she begins to take a second look at the old hotel that has been her home. She soon begins to understand people make the memories not places or things.

The author uses humor to lighten the deep message of a woman beginning to understand it is people not edifices that matter. ROOM SERVICE is a delightful contemporary romance that in many ways is a coming of age tale. As the hotel's nameplate keeps falling down no matter what she does to prevent that from happening, Olivia is the star of the well written story line; her metamorphosis due mostly to Rhys and that makes for a fine tale.
