Book Description

May 18, 2003
Maid service was something she required...

Jet-setter Katya Morgan believes that love comes in gilt-wrapped packages tied with neat red bows. So when her father disinherits her, her first priority is to get her money and her cushy life back. Meanwhile, having no way to pay the enormous bill she racked up at the Royal Palmetto Hotel in Scottsdale, Arizona, poses a slight problem-and the manager has the gall to suggest the unthinkable: that she pay off her debt by working at the hotel-as a maid...

Not something she ever expected to provide!

Alex Sheridan, the hard-working general manager of the sumptuous Royal Palmetto hotel, doesn't much care for the spoiled Ms. Morgan-at first. But when she dons the uniform and proves her mettle as a housekeeper who cares about more than cold, hard cash, he begins to change his mind. He's got plenty to distract him when a rash of disasters befalls his beloved hotel-disasters that could be the result of a saboteur. It isn't long before Katya finds herself in imminent peril just as Alex is starting to fall for the once-spoiled brat who's acting more and more like a real woman every day...

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Drawing on a formula similar to the one used in her previous book, Record Time, Brandt dishes up another lighthearted office romance touched with humor and suspense. Rich, pampered Katya Morgan finds herself without money, clothes and a means to support herself when her father dies and leaves everything to her stepmother. Katya is determined to come up with enough cash to contest the will and regain her party-girl lifestyle, but first she must find a job. Salvation comes in the form of handsome hotel manager Alex Sheridan, a rescuer of damsels-in-distress who happens to have an opening in housekeeping. As Katya struggles to learn how to clean toilets, ride the bus and make her own food, she strikes up a sexual relationship with Alex that quickly turns serious. The one thing standing in their way is her fear of intimacy. An unlikely subplot involving a hotel saboteur adds little suspense (Brandt's laughable villain brandishes a baseball bat instead of a pistol), and the author's tendency to reiterate her characters' motivations will wear on readers. Overall, however, this is fun, breezy beach reading.

From Booklist

Katya Morgan lives a life most of us can only dream of. In all her 31 years, she has never had to work, pay bills, shop for groceries, or clean her house. Her father sent her off to boarding school after her mother died, and has financed her jet-setting life ever since. When her stepmother breaks the news that her father has died, Katya is understandably saddened. When she finds out she's been completely disinherited, left with no place to live and all her credit cards cancelled, she's outraged. Unable to pay for her hotel room, Katya is forced to work off her bill. Alex Sheridan is confused when Katya's stepmother asks him to give her stepdaughter a job, figuring there's no way someone like Katya would clean toilets, but he soon realizes this rich kid is not what he expected. As Alex helps her out, Katya discovers how the rest of the world lives, and the reader enjoys a fine, funny tale. Maria Hatton

5.0 out of 5 stars A Hilarious Ride that Will Keep You Laughing Til the End, May 28, 2003

This review is from: Room Service (Mass Market Paperback)
Katya Morgan is the quintessential poor little rich girl in Brandt's latest romantic comedy, ROOM SERVICE. She's a jetsetting playgirl who's never worked a day in her life - that is until her father dies and she's left with nothing that she hasn't bought herself - which is, well, nothing.

Alex Sheridan is the hardworking manager of the Royal Palmetto hotel, where Katya is staying. Of course, Katya can no longer pay her quite substantial bill. At the request of Jillian, Katya's `wicked' stepmother, Alex offers Katya a job - as a maid.

Needless to say, comedy commences.

ROOM SERVICE is a hilarious ride that you will be unable to put down. Underneath Katya's cold and calloused exterior are numerous layers, and she slowly evolves from a cold hearted spoiled girl to a sympathetic young women whom all readers will be able to relate to. Of course, this will take the love of a good man. *g* If you are looking for a fun summer read be sure to put ROOM SERVICE at the top of your summer reading list

5.0 out of 5 stars "Room Service" Delivers Romantic Punch, May 3, 2003

Katya Morgan was raised to believe that money equals love. Sent away to baording school upon the death of her mother at age 10, her father has always been absent in every way but one. He's always provided her with every material possession that money can buy. And when he dies and disinherits her, even having her stepmother Jillian take back everything that his money ever paid for, Katya is not only devasted, but broke. When sexy Alex Sheridan, the general manager of the premier Royal Palmetto hotel in Arizona, offers her a job in the housekeeping department, Katya knows she's sunk to a new low. Once a guest, now a lowly housekeeper, Katys is truck with the realization of just how much money it takes to survive. Throw in a saboteur trying to take over Alex's job at the hotel, the hotel owners dimwitted son Chris, a slew of Alex's family, and a drooling dog named "Daisy", and you've got a story you're not likely to forget. I loved "Room Service". Whether it's due to the fact that Ms. Brandt obviosly did her research on the daily runnings of a hotel, or just the fact that the story is a wonderful one, "Room Service" is one book you won't be able to put down.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dreaming of an Arizona vacation??, April 19, 2006

This review is from: Room Service (Mass Market Paperback)
In a new twist on the poor little rich girl story, our female lead character's deceased grandfather whops a load of serious tough love on his playgirl daughter. Hmm..maybe I should forward a copy of this novel to Paris Hilton's grandfather... By forcing the now penniless playgirl to connect with the "real" world and some charming "real" characters (loving Latino family), serious, handsome, hardworking, male lead hotel manager the expected maturity and appreciation for the stuff of life occurs. The setting is in Arizona and the descriptions of gorgeous desert views, add another layer of interest. Nothing particularly special here--just good journeyman level, well crafted contemporary romance.
