Biography

Much maligned British pop-rock band McFly can afford to shrug off the criticisms; after all they have earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records (as the youngest band to have a debut album, Room on the 3rd Floor, enter the UK charts at No.1). Tom Fletcher has distinguished himself as the writer of ten UK No.1 singles (which includes three written for Busted) – and all before his 21st… Read more in Amazon's McFly Store

5.0 out of 5 stars McFly:- Room On The 3rd Floor, August 22, 2005
This review is from: Room on the Third Floor (Audio CD)
Look, McFly really aren't that bad. They write their own songs, and play their own music, and to be quite honest with you, they're very talented. Their lyrics are good, because you can actually relate to them. They talk about teens problems in life and the ups and downs of love, which I really respect them for. They've also been a great success in the UK: they've released six singles so far; four of them have climbed to #1, and sure the other two were also hits, and this album also got #1. Their new album Wonderland is also tipped to hit the #1 spot. They've also won their first BRIT award (best pop act - deservedly so), and bagged up an impressive five awards at this years' Smash Hits poll awards, earlier this year, including Danny - sexiest male!

FIVE COLOURS IN HER HAIR
The first single from the album. Reached #1 in the UK and stayed there for two weeks. In the Japanese charts, Five Colours reached #2! This is an awesome song, and should really be remembered as a great track. It is also their signature track, and should not be missed! (Not that anyone hasn't heard it already!!)

OBVIOUSLY
Second single released from the album, reached #1 in the UK, stayed at the top for a week. This is another brill effort from the lads, and I strongly recommend you check it out!

ROOM ON THE 3RD FLOOR
The title track is the fourth and final single from the album, and reached #5 in the UK. This is one of the very few songs on the album that is not about getting a girl, having a girl, or wanting a girl. One of the best on the album.

THAT GIRL
Third single from the album; #2 in UK. This is one of my faves on the album, definately top three. The song is really catchy, the lyrics are quite good, singing is topper, overall excellent song. The guitar solo (by Danny, I believe) is particularly enjoyable.

HYPNOTISED
This is nothing new: McFly fall in love, and then their g/f gives them a heave-ho. HOWEVER, this song is another catchy effort, and Tom's vocals are particularly great. Another stand-out track on the album, but then again, I have many.

SATURDAY NIGHT
Awesome. There's not much needs to be said about this song, apart from: the singing is great, so are the guitar solos, and the lyrics are rediculously, stupidly and un-intelligently great.

MET THIS GIRL
Another song that would be in my top three. This song is SOOOOOOOOOO catchy, I love it, and I don't really have anything else to say about it. The break-down in the middle is the best part!

SHE LEFT ME
If any of you lads out there have just been dumped by your g/f's, this song isn't actually going to help. However, it's one that you'd find at a smoochy, old school disco, and I love it. Probably the slowest song on the album.

DOWN BY THE LAKE
This song is very, very, very, very good, but if I had to choose a weakest song, this would get it! It's about a girl they like, and the girl likes them, but the girls' dad doesn't like McFly, and they make out down by the lake, and the girls' dad sees them...

UNSAID THINGS
This song was my fave song on the album, but due to songs like Five Colours, That Girl and Met This Girl, which I've been listening to alot more lately, it isn't my fave anymore! A girl used to go out with McFly when they were young, now she's married and has a "baaa-aaa-aaa-by" (yes, I said it right!).

SURFER BABE
Another brill song. It's catchy and great!

NOT ALONE
This is the second ballad on the album, the other being She Left Me. This song is one of the best on the album, and was written by Danny. He wrote it when he was 16, two years before McFly released Five Colours. Great!

BROCCOLI
This song is really weird, but it rocks! It's about a girl who was meant to be coming round for tea, and McFly cook for her, and then she doesn't come round anymore. Awwww, bless! Anyway, this song is also humurous, with lyrics like, "SHE DOESN'T KNOW THAT I'M A VIRGIN IN THE KITCHEN COZ IT'S NORMALLY MY MUM!" Great closure! This album also includes a hidden track, called Get Over You, and it's a pain to play. Rewind your player when Five Colours In Her Hair starts, and stop at about -1:55. This song also rules!

Since this album, McFly have released another two singles; both of which got the top spot. All About You was the first, which was recorded for Comic Relief, It stayed at the top for one week. The other is I'll Be OK, their new song, which charted at #1 last night! (Yes, you heard me correct - McFly knocked James Blunt off the top!!) Their new album Wonderland (hence my pen-name) is out on the 29th August - for god sake, buy it. Danny, Dougie, Tom and Harry make up the best pop band on the planet - and I literally mean it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Practically the BEST album on EARTH, March 16, 2005
This review is from: Room on the 3rd Floor (Audio CD)
The album kicks off with McFlys debut single '5 Colours In Her Hair' introducing you to the new age of POP that is MCFLY. Its jumpy, catchy tune will have you hooked and want to listen MORE MORE MORE.
But next on the album we see McFlys true song writing skills in 'Obviously' which shows you the side of McFly that is softer and more melodic than their 1st single.
Next is the title track of McFlys album 'Room On The 3rd Floor' in this you hear the sad reality that is a cheap hotel room, this was McFly's 4th single and once you really listen to it, you can hear the simple but extremely effective tune, used to captivate the hearts of millions of girls throughout the UK.
'That Girl was McFly's 3rd single and is the the type of song every album needs to make it complete, the guitar solo by Danny, McFlys lead guitarist makes the song stand out and is an 'epic moment in an epic song'.
McFlys forthcoming release after the cover of the James Taylor classic 'You've Got A Friend' and 'All About You' written by Tom is 'Hypnotised' influenced by the fact that Danny reckons he can't be hypnotised. This song is set alight by a stroke of genius drumming by Harry Judd,in which a simple beat is used to the greatest effectivness.
'Saturday Night' has got to be one of the best songs on the album, it uses a 6 string bass(played by dougie) to create a 60's style 'Rock n Roll' song. The line 'no one here to check if you're underage' refers to Dougie who is still not old enough to drink in a pub in the UK.
'Met this Girl' seems like it was thrown in to fill a gap in the album, a gap which was filled extremely well.
The next song 'She Left Me' refers to life in a band and not being able to keep a girlfriend due to the stresses & strains of being famous, this songs slow melody is used to create a sad, lonely atmosphere and the song is only ruined slightly by the band talking in 'mock' american accents.
'Down By The Lake' is about 'young love and the benefits of getting together when 'daddys' not around because the 'daddy' in question doesn't like the boyfriend much, nor does the boyfriend like the dad much either'.
'Unsaid Things' is about requited love. the girls fiance is the same guy who turns up as a marine in 'Obviously'.
Next comes 'Surfer Babe' which is a song which uses a happy, jumpy rhythm and was written on a freezing hotel balcony about girls in the hot florida sun.
'Not Alone' is written by danny because even thought he was alone because hes catholic he didnt feel alone and is influenced by one of his heroes 'Bruce Springsteen'.
The last track on the album Broccoli provoked some unusual reactions from the MASSIVE McFly fanbase, in their recent 2004 tour, fans deciced to throw broccolli at McFly when they were on stage, McFly said 'its not funny, Broccolli hurts, its hard'

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good!, June 27, 2005
This review is from: Room on the Third Floor (Audio CD)
Look Mcfly and Busted may not have the best singing or writing but you must give them credit for writing their own songs and playing instruments. Also at least these two bands have influences and are original. They aren't trying to be punk or goth like Simple Plan or Good Charlotte. They just like to be themselves. I'm sick of everyone saying "Oh if you want real music listen to Good Charlotte." Well I'll tell you what makes this band and Busted rock is that when they play live it sounds good. Sure Good Charlotte may sound great on the cd but on stage they really just suck. I don't call screaming singing. At least when McFly sing live they sound remotely close to their recordings. I think it's good that they don't feel that they have to electronically change their voices to sound better. Also their songs aren't about how much life sucks and everyone is "holding them back" or about drugs or how celebrities have it soooooo bad. They are writing about stuff they actually know about and it's fun stuff not too serious. Their songs are just plain fun to listen to. Give 'em a chance.
