Brilliant & quirky story & illustrations. Nice message without beating you over the head.
Pack rat succumbs to social pressure, discards his first and favorite belonging because he begins to believe it is worthless, as his friends tell him it is. This leads to his decline, until he lies on the floor, feeling as empty as his empty room of wonders. He rediscovers his passion from the simplest of objects, happiness reigns. Yay.

My daughter and I read this book all the time and never tire of it. The art is beautiful and quirky, and the story is thoughtful and, ultimately, meaningful for both younger and older readers.
