5.0 out of 5 stars Unique puzzler with great music!
I play a lot of puzzle games. While I generally prefer the match 3 sort of games this one appealed to me as it reminded me of a puzzle type I played a lot when I was little. This game is just like that game that used to come in Cracker Jacks. It had a bunch of squares with one missing so you could shift all the little pieces around to try and get the picture to come out...

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty amusing
Not the game for you if you're looking for the occasional time-killer. The basic concepts are easy enough to remember but I got confused when I set the game down for a week and I forgot what I was looking for and why. But, if you're the kind of person that plays non-stop until you're through, then this is the game for you

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique puzzler with great music!, March 29, 2010

I play a lot of puzzle games. While I generally prefer the match 3 sort of games this one appealed to me as it reminded me of a puzzle type I played a lot when I was little. This game is just like that game that used to come in Cracker Jacks. It had a bunch of squares with one missing so you could shift all the little pieces around to try and get the picture to come out right. Sometimes you have to work and re work to get it perfect and even the simple ones can stump you for a while. I can't tell you the number of hours I wasted doing these types of puzzles! Probably not as many as I put into my DSi but that's beside the point.

The graphics on this are pretty good. The people look like 3D models on top of a non 3D environment (reminds me of Glory of Heracles). I'm not an expect so don't know if they are 3D but that is how they appear. The puzzles are very fun and quite clever and do get progressively harder. There are pieces that remind me more of a platformer or action game as well (although not too many which is good because I could not be any worse at those types of games..my kids consider me quite pitiful!)

The music is great so far -- very unique and suitable for the game itself. There are a few sound effects that are neat as well.

The only issue I could see is that some of the graphics are quite small. I am playing it on my new DSi XL but feel like on a DS Lite it might be really tough to see some of the items and pieces of rooms.

Overall it got 5 stars from me for not only reminding me of a favorite childhood pastime but for being unique in a puzzling world where we get so much of the same or, even worse, lame and insipid games that are either too hard or too easy. If Elmo were here he would be asking "which one of these games is not like the other" to which you could heartily respond Rooms: The Main Building. If you are awaiting Puzzle Quest 2 pick this one up in the meantime. It will do nicely to pass the time!

5.0 out of 5 stars A worthy challenge for puzzle fans, April 5, 2010

I love puzzle games but I'm not that great at slide puzzles so I took a gamble on "Rooms" based on the first two reviews. When I received the game, I found out it's much more than a slide puzzle. It isn't just a matter of sliding tiles into their correct positions. This game has plenty of little "helpers" like transporters and a train. The latter involves lining up two railway depot tiles horizontally and the player can travel between tiles without moving them. These add variety to the puzzles. There are at least 4 mansions to clear (I'm only at the beginning of number 3). The puzzles graduate in difficulty but the change isn't so radical until you get to the 4 to 5 star puzzles. Even then I just take a little more time to reason out what to do. If you like more of a challenge, there's a time challenge mode too and a trophy room to display bragging rights to your friends! If you're like me and aren't a genius at slide puzzles, don't let this prevent you from considering this game. Its biggest drawback: I can't get anything done because I keep playing it! This game is positively addictive.

I just got this game yesterday and let me tell ya, its already got me hooked! I'm already into the 2nd mansion (there are 4 in all plus a bonus one). If you like the "slider" puzzles (there were a few on the Professor Layton series), then you'll like this game because that's basically what it is, but with a little "magic" added to it. Just when you think you got the puzzle finished and find that your stuck, you look it over again and get that "a-ha!" moment and then figure out how to move the rooms around again to get out of the rooms! Its easy to catch on to and a fun storyline to watch! I definitely recommend this game for people who like puzzles!

I immediately thought of the Professor Layton puzzles when I picked this up. I will say that the graphics are a mite small on the DS lite that I am using. It has a tutor to get you started. I'm not very far along yet but I can see it is a game you will have to stick with as you may forget what it is you are looking for. LOL Maybe just older folks like me.

I have liked slider puzzles since I was a child and these are none to easy. I see this as another great game if you are looking to exercise your mind. For me it is a bit different than the others I have but it does have puzzles and a mystery line like Professor Layton only it is like real objects not cartoons.

I got a deal on it but I do think the original price is a bit high.

This is one of the best games I have played on my DS. I find myself picking it up whenever I have free time and loving it! I am almost done with it and hope a new one comes out soon.

I love it, there are many many levels to play and you can create your own. I enjoy these types of games. They are true puzzles. You can enter and exit some rooms quite easily, but others are truly difficult. Some rooms move and line up easily and others take some thought but it is much more fun than the ordinary word puzzle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the $ I paid!, March 28, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Rooms: The Main Building (Video Game)
I was at a local game store that was having a buy 2 / get 1 free deal on used games. So I grabbed ROOMS...not really knowing much about it. What a nice find! I am really enjoying this game!! There are 4 levels with multiple puzzles in each level. Some are pretty easy....and some take multiple restarts to figure out. You have to slide rooms around to find keys, open doors, sometimes drain water out of rooms so you can enter them.....in the hope that you can ultimately enter the room with the exit door so you can get to the next level.

PROS: Background music is nice. Makes you feel like you are on some kind of spy mission :)
It's great that you can always click on the "?" if you forget how to do something.
Some rooms are easy, but it is fun on the harder ones to think a few steps ahead so you don't get stuck.
If you DO get stuck, or you die (by drowning or blowing yourself up)....you can restart the level.

CONS: Haven't really found any yet.

I have never liked slider puzzles, but this one is fantastic! It is a game you will play again and again. I love Professor Layton and while this game is quite different and does not follow a story line extensively like the Layton games, it is just as fun and addictive. This is a refreshingly different puzzle game! I'll buy the next one if it comes out. Well worth the money!
