4.0 out of 5 stars Great organization tool, could be built better
The collector's book has holes the size of the coins cut out, with labels under every hole with the specific year, mint, and sometimes other information about the coin for the hole. I have found it very hard to keep a collection of circulating coins without whitman portfolios.

I took off a star because of two flaws in its design. Most importantly, the...

2.0 out of 5 stars Whitman Coin Folders
The following review is applicable to both the Whitman dime and quarter coin folders. They are attractive and look good. However, as others have complained, it is nearly impossible to insert a coin into a slot unless the coin is well worn. Mere thumb pressure won't do it. Either the Chinese dies have worn or the specifications are off. I tried to solve the problem by...

2.0 out of 5 stars Whitman Coin Folders, June 12, 2009
This review is from: Roosevelt Dimes Folder 1946-1964 (Official Whitman Coin Folder) (Hardcover)
I tried to solve the problem by lightly sanding the inside of the hole. I glued a piece of 120 grit to the end of a 3/8 inch wooden dowel and ran it around the inside of the hole a few times. It helped but didn't solve the problem. It still required a tool to help press the coin into the slot. A punch press would work but isn't available to most users. I used a homemade tool, which I won't describe here because there is risk of damaging a coin. You will have to devise your own. Or, you could try another brand of coin folder. The Whitman coin folder is one I remember fondly from my youth. It's a shame they don't seem to work anymore.

I took off a star because of two flaws in its design. Most importantly, the backing is very thin, and clearly shows every coin you've pressed into the other side. Also, the coins stay in place by pressing the surrounding posterboard outwards. That means that the force used to put the coin into the book is far more than the force holding it in, and it cane sometimes be a struggle to get a coin to fit.

I was very dissapointed with how cheaply made this folder is. The holes for the coins are much to small, and when you apply pressure to insert the coins, you end up tearing through the folder. The Whitman folders I purchased years ago are much better than these. I suggest you look for other coin folders. The printing on the cover looks very cheap and is not up to the old Whitman standards either.
