Off the Hook!,

This review is from: The Root of All Evil: The Almighty $ Some Pray for It.......Others Pray to It! (Paperback)
There are so many twist and turns in this story that you will not be able to put the book down. I just loved the way you knew what happened to everyone at the end and you were not left to wonder. Some things that happened in this book is so close to real life that it makes you see things in a whole new light. The main character takes you through her troubled marriage on her voyage of looking for love as well looking for that almighty dollar. But wait till she reveals what she finds. Please if you love books filled with drama you must read this.

The thesarus finds riveting as being:-enthralling, exciting, spellbinding, interesting, thrilling or captivating...just to name a few and that is exactly what I felt when reading this novel. Indeed I was spellbound by the fact I bought it Monday afternoon and finished it Wednesday and probably could have finished it the same day had it not been for work! It kept me glued to each page, waiting, hoping, wondering what would happen next....and the sensuality was off the hook!-deep.... I was especially pulled to the main character Klarke that ultimately, without giving away any story lines had me in tears. There was no character in the book that I did not like....everyone of them brought something to the table in their own unique or negative ways. There were story lines that I am sure many people can relate to or KNOW of someone who can relate to. The story line was absolutely wonderful and never would I have imagined the end.

I bypassed this book for months in the bookstore because the cover seemed to depict it as another one of the many ghetto love stories that are coming out in the urban genre.....Not that all of those are bad, but some, with the bad grammar and predictable storylines leave a little to be desired..What a welcome suprise!!!!! "The Root" combines a perfect mix of an urban backdrop, mystery, love, and sex. Yet, it doesn't stray away from a strong plot with interesting well-developed characters. All in all, it was a page-turner, with an ending that has left me waiting for more. I can't wait until the sequel comes out! Buy this book, you won't regret it!

I did not enjoy this book. It was filled with errors, both spelling and grammar errors. The book did not keep my interest and the characters were not that entertaining. This book is only decent in the last 30 pages.

This book was very good, sure there were some editing issues but overall, I was not destracted by them. There were so many plot twists I almost could not keep up, I was totally shocked. I'm almost upset I read this book without realizing that there is a sequel which is not already published. I don't know when it is coming out, but I will definitely read it. I am a bit saddened by this book and its ending BUT I look forward to *hopefully* resolution in the sequel.

The Root of All Evil by Joylynn M. Jossel
I read a lot of books and if the first page doesn't grab me, then I'm done with it. When I got a hold of The Root of All Evil on the amazon.com website, I immediately ordered it. What grabbed me was the cover, and the synopsis on the back of the book. When I see a cover, it's the first thing I notice when I'm in a bookstore. I knew I was in for a good read. I couldn't put the book down because it grabbed me from the beginning and enlightened me to the end. The characters of Breezy, Jeva and Klarke inspired me. I related with Klarke from the beginning of the book because she had two children a pile of bills, and no way to pay them. We can all relate to Klarke's situation. I also like the friendship between the three women, and the fact that they go window shopping when they don't have any money, whatsoever! Of all the characters, Klarke was my favorite character. I related to her through the entire novel, and especially at the end when she chose to go to prison to save her daughter. This part of the novel was a twist I didn't expect. Klarke and Reo's relationship was perfect until Meka decided to get into the game, and a baby is dead because of it. The baby being drowned was another plot I didn't expect. Ms. Jossel's twists and turns were very surprising but well received. I didn't want Klarke to go to prison, but she really had no choice in the matter. I was sad when she and Reo didn't make their relationship last. Their relationship was romantic from the beginning when they met on the internet. Of course, Klarke planned everything, but it was still romantic the way they kept emailing each other, and then meeting at the end. I loved this part. I thought Reo would stand by Klarke, but he was in a grieving state, and couldn't control himself. I can't wait for the sequel. This was one book I truly enjoyed and loved. I hated for it to end. Another plot of the book was Jeva finally finding her parents, and finding out they didn't want anything to do with her. The check they gave her justified their actions, and Jeva had no choice but to accept the money. Why not? If they didn't care about their own child, she had their money to remind them. I was glad Breezy finally found out about Lance. She was truly wasting her time with him. When Jeva confessed to Breezy about sleeping with Lance, I was glad the friendship lasted. It's good to know that friendship is still honored and well-respected. Lance was truly a dog. Breezy's relationship with her father was an interesting concept. This book is full of plots. I could go on and on about this book because it was fantastic. The writing, the plot, the characters, and especially the twists and turns. If you purchase this book you won't be sorry you paid your money because it's worth it, and then some. You'll be pleased at the end, and wishing for more. I am a reader, and I highly recommend The Root of all Evil. This book could easily become the book of the month for Oprah. It's that good. Joylynn M. Jossel is a new talent to be praised and recognized.

Absolutely Captivating,

This review is from: The Root of All Evil (Paperback)
I bought the book thinking I'd stretch it out over a week to keep from being bored at my job. Didn't happen. In 10 hours I was finished. I couldn't put the book down. The characters seemed as though they were pulled right out of my life. They were so easy to identify with.
Just when you thought you had someone figured out, Ms. Jossel threw some stuff in the game that made you step back and raise and eyebrow. It was like being told some deep dark hair-raising secret about your best friend! There were some serious skeletons in the closets. It'll make you say,"Wo!" I can honestly say that I will definitely be reading ALL of Ms. Jossel's books; even the children's stories. That's how good she is. Reading the Root of All Evil makes you want to read everything that she does. I can't wait for the sequel. I'm telling all my friends to go out and buy this book (I'm certainly not giving up mine) and I'm sure they will form the same opinion as myself. Great job, Ms. Jossel. You have a new fan! |
