Book Description

January 3, 2000
This is a collection of conversations with people who are fascinating and whose accomplishments are very impressive.

These are people of various professions: politicians, writers, scientists, and people of great passions and dedication. Three of the presented interviewees received the Nobel Prize in their fields (literature and medicine). All of them live in the USA or Canada, and all of them have the same thing in common: Polish roots.

Among the interwiees are: Isaak B.Singer, Czeslaw Milosz, Zbigniew Brzezinski, Andrew V.Schally. W.S.Kuniczak, Senator Stanley Haidasz, Janusz Zurakowski and Stanislaw Brzezinski. The very interesting chapter is dedicated to life of sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski (the authors' great uncle) whose project the sculpture of Crazy Horse in the Black Hills of South Dakota is continued by his family.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Wynika to z niejednokrotnie z przyjetych przez rozmowcow kryteriow oceny: ilosciowego, zawodowego wyksztalcenia, przedstawicielstwa we wladzach, zamoznosc. -- LiT."W domu i w podrozy"

Rozmowy Autorki z wybitnymi ludzmi sa zawsze interesujace"(...). Dla cytowanych zdan warto czytac jej ksiazki"(...). -- Wieslaw Rogowski

"Polska emigracja polityczna prawie wymarla, a ta garstka, ktora przezyla powstanie lll Rzeczypospolitej, bardzo stracila na znaczeniu. Nastepne generacje zajmuja sie glownie sprawami zyciowymi i asymiluja w krajach zamieszkania. Bohaterami tej ksiazki sa zyjacy i juz zmarli emigranci, ktorzy opowiadaja o Polsce, jaka zapamietali z czasow dziecinstwa i mlodosci, a takze w swoich wojennych i pozniejszych losach w roznych krajach. Sentymentalne wspomnienia o rodzinnych stronach przeplataja si tutaj z opowiesciami o dramatycznych przezyciach w czasie wojny i o losach emigrantow poszukujacych swojego miejsca w nowych ojczyznach z wyboru. (...)

(...) jakie piekne i roznorodne sa to postacie.

-- Cezary Chlebowski "O Polonusach inaczej"

"The interviews with famous and not-so-famous persons of Polish background (most of them living in America) by a prolific writer who has been dubbed "a woman of success" by a reviewer in the Paris "Kultura". (...). Interesting fates and pleasant reading. The author's inveriable sympathetic intrest in her subjects is a model to follow. As has been frequently noted in reviews of her books, Ziolkowska-Boehm has a remarkable ability to abstrain from hasty editorializing". -- The Sarmatian Review Nr9/1988
