5.0 out of 5 stars The Absolutely Most Offensive Thing, August 19, 2002
This review is from: Roots of Evil (Audio CD)
The absolutely most offensive thing about this album is that it never got the props it deserved. It truly establishes Mr. Rap as the Mario Puzo of hip hop (whom I am sure he was influenced by considering the puppeteer's hand). The greatest story teller in hip hop, who despite clearly being a "gangsta rapper", still manages to get on a lot of backpacker albums. This is due to his undeniable talent which transcends genres. This concept album is clearly KoolG's masterpiece. Anyone who enjoys well put together storytelling is sure to enjoy the cinematic lyrics on this musical trajedy. Not even Shakespeare could have created a protagonist who takes the path of the tragic hero while so delighting the listener with his lyrical wit as Rap has. Did I mention I'm an English teacher? In my professional opinion, Kool G. Rap is one of the great American poets.
