5.0 out of 5 stars The Absolutely Most Offensive Thing
The absolutely most offensive thing about this album is that it never got the props it deserved. It truly establishes Mr. Rap as the Mario Puzo of hip hop (whom I am sure he was influenced by considering the puppeteer's hand). The greatest story teller in hip hop, who despite clearly being a "gangsta rapper", still manages to get on a lot of backpacker albums...

3.0 out of 5 stars Kool G Rap: A True Legend 3.5 Stars
If you ask a real hiphop fan the top MC's ever in hiphop, 1 out of 4 times they will mention Kool G Rap as one of the 10 best ever to touch a mic. He made his name in the Juice Crew in the 80's and brought "Road to the Riches" and many knew this was a legend being born. With several releases in the 90's Kool G Rap remained as one of the best. His album called "4,5,6"...

The greatest story teller in hip hop, who despite clearly being a "gangsta rapper", still manages to get on a lot of backpacker albums. This is due to his undeniable talent which transcends genres. This concept album is clearly KoolG's masterpiece. Anyone who enjoys well put together storytelling is sure to enjoy the cinematic lyrics on this musical trajedy. Not even Shakespeare could have created a protagonist who takes the path of the tragic hero while so delighting the listener with his lyrical wit as Rap has. Did I mention I'm an English teacher? In my professional opinion, Kool G. Rap is one of the great American poets.

5.0 out of 5 stars The album is good. G Rap is the best there is., February 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Roots of Evil (Audio CD)
Kool G. Rap is "back again" proving that he is the best lyricist in rap. The tone is more mello, and the lyrics throughout this album are simply outstanding and delivered with passion and vigor like an Oscar winning actor. His lyrical skills and vocal delivery are an amazing one of a kind. Kool G. Rap never fails to rhyme a new and dramatic story and stays true to his gangster style despite leaning towards R&B on some of the tracks. I've heard all of G Rap's albums. Many are familiar with his debut album, but as a veteran, G has put together dozens of good rhymes and this is album is no exception. Tekilla Sunrise, Hitman's Diary, Foul Cats, Home Sweet Funeral Home, Mobstas, Let Da Games Begin, A Thug's Love Story (Chapter I,II,III), Da Bosses Lady, Mafioso, Thug's Anthem, Can't Stop The Shine, and Cannon Fire are all Classics! As you can tell, I think the majority of the album is good. There are no tracks that sound like they were "thrown together" - even the intro and outro are tight. This album is a Classic from the best pure rapper I've ever heard.

This album is so real, it hurts to hear it. Make sure you listen to this last because it will cast a shadow over all your CD's.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Gangsta Movie!!!!!, April 16, 2004

Wayne Maye (Petersburg,VA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Roots of Evil (Audio CD)
1998 was a great year for hip hop. It's just sad that this EXCELLENT marvel in storytelling from Kool G.Rap went virtually unnoticed by most hip hop fans. Roots of Evil goes back to where Live And Let Die left, as G.Rap, in his greatest from, produced some of the greatest storytelling I personally have ever heard on record. Listening to this album(just like Live And Let Die) is like watching a straight hardcore gangsta film. It's filled with gritty, explosive moments throughout. Here's the review:

Album Highlights: DON'T skip ANYTHING on this album. NO FILLER. One movie all the way through.

Production: Thumbs up. Nothing spectacular, but the tracks G.Rap's storytelling style.

Lyrics and Subject Matter: Thumbs way up. It's like a "Live And Let Die Part 2."

Originality: Thumbs way up. NO ONE was coming like this in 98.

The Last Word: Absolutely entertaining album from G.Rap. It might have been slept on, but I still appreciated this album from him. As with his first three albums, G.Rap ultimately proved to me that he is one of the all-time greats in hip hop, and his spot is WELL DESERVED. Overall, if you can locate a copy, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND this album, especially for the fans of deep, precise storytelling.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top 5 albums of all time!!!, March 16, 2004
By
This review is from: Roots of Evil (Audio CD)
This album is a masterpiece. Why it didn't get the pub it deserved is strange to me, but that's been the case for G. Rap throughout his career. Argueably the best story-teller in the game(G. Rap/Nas) this album plays out like a good book. Let the cd play from start to finish without skipping any tracks, its that good. Incredible follow up answer to the weak 4,5,6 album.

5.0 out of 5 stars MAKES NO SENSE TO ME..., March 30, 2003
This review is from: Roots of Evil (Audio CD)
Makes no sense to me that on the cover, Kool looks like the SCARFACE movie poster, but the font of his name is from THE GODFATHER. Make a decision!

oh yeah,

The cd is tight.
