5.0 out of 5 stars Elvis Like We'd Never Hear Him Again, August 27, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Roots Revolution: Louisiana Hayride (Audio CD)
This disc features the first ever "live" recorded performances of Elvis Presley taken from the famous radio show "The Louisiana Hayride." Only 19 years old at the time of the first performance, Elvis simply shattered the status quo. The energy, the power, the excitement he delivered was like no one before or after. The CD, ROOTS REVOLUTION, brings it all home. Slamming together blues, gospel, country and swing, Elvis took tunes like "That's All Right, Mama," "Maybelline," and "Baby Let's Play House," to new heights. Before long Elvis would be bigger than life, adored by millions, but at the time of the Hayride recordings it was still unadulterated, raw and real. I highly recommend this disc to any and all music fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Time capsule, October 9, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Roots Revolution: Louisiana Hayride (Audio CD)
Listening to this is like finding an old reel-to-reel recording made by your parents from a radio show. It's more a historical recording than a "good listening" recording, although the restoration is brilliant. If you're interested in hearing (the young) Elvis at his very best get the Sun Sessions CD. If you want to hear Elvis and feel like you're sitting in the waybackradiomachine, get this one. No reason you can't have it both ways...get one of each!

The "Roots Revolution: Louisiana Hayride" CD is successful because the music included is clear and it is probably the closest you can get and imagine how Elvis, Scotty, Bill and DJ Fontana sounded during those early live concerts. The CD comes with a mini book which contains anecdotes of the Hayride shows with black & white pictures of Elvis and an explanation of the restoration process. For those fans who were not present in those early concerts but want to experience how it was, this is a must.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS RECORD I PURCHASED AT AMAZON.COM

INCLUDES A 1954 RADIO PROGRAM WHERE 19 YEAR OLD ELVIS PRESLEY PERFORMED "THAT'S ALRIGHT MAMA."

THE QUALITY IS EXCELLENT GIVEN THE TECHNOLOGY OF THE TIME.

A YEAR AFTER HIGH SCHOOL, HIS CAREER IS LAUNCHED AND THE GENRE OF ROCK AND ROLL IN PART WITH THIS PERFORMANCE.

5.0 out of 5 stars Of all the Versions of Elvis on the Louisiana Hayride, This is the Best Version Available!!!!, April 13, 2011

I have listened to all the other versions of Elvis Presley on the Louisiana Hayride, but this version, is definitely the best. You get better sound quality, a more variety of songs/performances, stage talk, etc. So, if you want to hear Elvis on the legendary Louisiana Hayride Radio Show, broadcast live from the historic Shreveport, Louisiana Municipal Auditorium, & the Youth Building, at the Louisiana State Fairgrounds, during the mid 1950's, this is definitely the best option available. By the way there is a statue of Elvie Presley in front of the historic Shreveport Municipal Auditorium. Thanks!!!

It's a very old recording but presents the music of the times. Interesting to hear the radio show aspect too.

They played this entire CD on a country music program on our local public radio station, KEXP (where the music matters!) and about halfway through I was clicking on "One Button Purchase" for that CD from Amazon. What we have here is a live radio program (well, it was live when they were making this CD!) with a very young Elvis Presley going through his gyrations. You could hear the girls screaming in the background. They even have a couple "Lucky Strike" commercials, just to give you a feeling that you are sitting around the radio on a Saturday night in 1954, perhaps in Checotah, Oklahoma, and you are listening to the beginnings of something new - Rock and Roll.

Yeah, it's good. Oh yeah - there is at least one song that I thought something bad happened when it went from the CD to iTunes, but no, looks like they had twisted some knob too far when they were recording and they got a little distortion. Oh well. Gotta take a little bad with the good I guess.

The older I get the more i really enjoy the music of the past. I am really sick of the over produced, over fixed music that American is pushing out by the thousands. I really love classic, real music. If you can't sing your shouldn't. What I LOVE about this album is the raw, real Elvis. This is why he was the king. You can hear the love of the music in his voice, the love of what he is doing. If you are a fan this is one of the best recordings that you can buy. Makes me realize why I am a fan.
