...pain that is beautiful..sadness that is perfected in aural splendor..compelling lyrics that stir deep in one's soul..this is what to expect by listening to "the rope" by the ever majestic black tape for a blue girl..this is definitely late night music as all of their cd's are...if you do not own this cd as of yet..purchase it..light a few candles..in a quiet atmosphere...preferably, during the night hours..and let the music immerse you....it is a journey unlike any other..that I can assure you.

A haunting, beautiful mix of sounds and emotions,

A great start as a vehicle of artist Sam Rosenthal's beautiful and enchanting visions. His sounds take you away to the emptiness of a shattered soul and bring up your own memories of nursing a broken heart. Wonderful ambient synths mixed with the haunting beauty of vocalist Oscar Herrera's voice flow together so perfectly to invoke a tortured darkness of feeling. A wonderful album to complement your rainy day sorrows.

hide the razors!,

Well, how should I put this? This record was really not my cup of tea. High points: "Memory, Uncaring Friend" which is a little more hard hitting and rhythmical than the rest of the album, and "The Rope", very gloomy, with a chamber music sort of feel to it. Overall, the record was just too slow and dreamy for me to get into. I thought that the lyrics were great, though. I prefer the harder goth sound of Christian Death or Bauhaus, but I imagine that fans of the dark ambient/ ethereal sound would probably really get into this.

This album is by far the best Black Tape for a Blue Girl album. I really like the other ones (all with Oscar, of course) but this album is incredibly good. Good isn't even the word. Phenominal. Other people of noted it being melancholy but if you like Black Tape to begin with, then you're familiar with their style. Some of the songs even have lyrics to them when the song has no vocals (printed in the album liner notes) I would put this album in my top 5 cd's ever made ever by anyone. I was lucky enough to get to tell Sam Rosenthal that too a couple years ago. :)
