This rope has an SWL (safe working load) limit of 192 lb. and is white in color.

Safe Working Load (SWL) Limit 192 lb./87 kg

Fibrous ropes used for pulling and lifting are made of natural and/or synthetic fiber strands. A combination of characteristics, including material, construction, diameter, length, and breaking strength, give each rope its performance capability. Fibrous rope materials are selected for properties such as strength, flotation, elasticity, and resistance to abrasion, ultraviolet light, and chemical compounds. In solid braided rope, strands alternate between forming the outside of the rope and the interior of the rope. Solid braided rope tends to hold its round shape under pressure and load, making it useful in pulleys and winches. This type of rope is sturdy but not suitable for splicing. The breaking strength for fibrous rope is the strength at which new rope will fail under a stationary load. Breaking strength is not considered safe working load (SWL) limit.

Rope King USA manufactures a variety of ropes for industrial, mechanical, marine, and household purposes. The company, founded in 2008, is headquartered in Solon, OH.

First off, I bought 600' of 5/16" rope for less than fifty bucks, delivered. That is, simply, a super deal.

I call the rope "OK." It is, as described, a braided nylon rope. The problem is that it is a relatively "loose" and "airy" braid. I have used quite a bit of what I'd call "braided nylon utility rope," and most of it has been tighter braid than this rope.

I have to think the relatively loose braid makes for a weaker rope (less nylon and more air) and a rope which has less abrasion resistance.

That said, this will work fine for a wide range of applications. For instance, I'll use a bit of it to tie canoes on car roof racks; this is something I often use 1/4" rope for...this airy 5/16" will be fine. And, maybe that is the take-away: if you think you need quality 1/4" nylon rope, this 5/16" will probably work well.

The airy-ness of the rope also makes melting the cut ends a bit more difficult to make a really nice long-lasting end.

Anyway, I'm glad I bought it.

BTW, mine came on a pretty good plastic spool and I did not have the spool-related problems others have reported. Also, the Amazon pic of the rope seems to be of a laid rope and not a braided rope. This stuff is, in fact, braided.

The Rope: Excellent. High quality, only two places where it seemed scarred, and not in any way that would impede it's ability to do what rope does. I'd give it 5 stars. The spindle: I hated it. It shipped with one end broken off, which destroyed my ability to cleanly unwind the rope. I have to get a new spindle from the folks at ACE Hardware that was used for chain and otherwise would have been thrown away, unknot the rope - which took hours - and rewind the whole thing. That's not cool. So, with hating the spindle pulling on one side and loving the rope pulling on the other side, I have to give this roll of rope a 3 star rating. If they'd improve the spindle, I'd give them 5 stars.

My application for this is as horse fencing to keep them out of a wooded area they have no business being in. They could probably break it in a heartbeat if they wanted to, but, as it turns out they can't seem to tell the difference between this and the similar looking electric fencing. And they are very respectful of that stuff. So, I needed a lot of this and the price was right.

I bought this rope to "wrap" railings of a new stairs that I built on my dock to my sailboat. The railings are made of chain link fence top pipe between two 4x4 posts. The rope is tightly wrapped around starting at one end all the way to the other end. Makes a very nice "cool" effect as well as not having to grab a hot metal pipe when in the sun all day.

Strong, substantial, easy to knot. It's being used to hold down agricultural plastic over the top of hoops used in hoop houses. Time will tell about durability & UV rays.
