good but didn't get me...,
By Jack Miehoff "Slammin Jack" (Germany) - See all my reviews

Maybe this one was a little disapointing to me because I seen all the 5 stars and I was probably expecting more of the same...but that wasn't the case... Don't get me wrong I'm not saying it was a bad album... but it just wasn't anything special here... the clean vocals sounded whiny.. and wimpy... and just annoyed me at times... I would of given this album 3 and a half stars if i give half stars... because it isn't that bad...but not worthy of 4....

scars of tomorrow can be picked out from alot of the other hardcore/metalcore/emocore,whatever type bands, because they have a sound unique to their own.they use alot of melodic overtones on guitar.and throw breakdowns in at unexpected times.the singer uses his voice, yes his voice, not just his throat.his screams are very original and his voice is clean and goes with the music.each song is easy to differentiate, not blending into one another like most hardcore songs.the durmwork is phenomenal,he doesnt let up the whole cd.these guys have really mastered the craft of creating this kind of music, and put their peers to shame.my new favorite band of hardcore.outstanding work.be sure to catch them on tour with atreyu, and believe me i wish i could.for fans of atreyu, unearth, and poison the well.

Scars of Tomorrow have created 11 tracks of hardcore beauty. There is not one weak song on this entire album. The standout tracks on this album are "suffocating words" and "reflections". The songs were written and played perfectly and the lyrics are outstanding. If you like band such as Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, All that Remains, Atreyu or hardcore music at all, pick up "rope tied to the trigger", it will not dissappoint!

This is one of the best releases in the genre. These guys do it as good or better than anyone else in the metal world right now. You have great songwriting, and thats what sets them apart from most of the crowd.
There is definitely a trend here. No one can deny that if you have a Killswitch album album you're likely to dig unearth. The list goes on and on, but whats wrong with that as long as there is some origninality in the song writing. As long as I don't think I'm hearing a specific metallica riff, or lyrics almost exactly like pantera I'm alright. And I coudn't pin down any particular song with these guys. So if you're not jaded on metal core hardcore whatever other label people come up with, then check this album out because its a legitimate part of good heavy metal

strong metalcore,
A Kid's Review

Orange County's Scars of Tomorrow makes its Victory Records debut with Rope Tied to the Trigger, a furious metalcore statement if there ever was one. The fivesome rocks a thick format indebted to Deftones as much as death metal, committed to layering muscular East Coast hardcore (Sick of It All, Hatebreed) rhythms inside wind-whipping technical efficiency. And it works. Tracks like "To Watch You Burn," "As We Close," and "Will Hell Arise" blend these influences into a volatile, subcutaneously formidable groove - just like trouble, you feel it before you see it. Other highlights include the furious changes of "Face of Fear" and the interplay of melody and madness during "Suffocating Words," which rips from hardcore to searing metal chording and back to a rousing melody inside four minutes. Scars of Tomorrow's principals are obviously in a lot of emotional pain, or at least angry - there's all that guttural screaming, after all. But there will be a point in metalcore's future when its busted inkwell of brutal descriptors will run dry. "Burn," "hell," "fear," "dying," "abandonment" - they're all present and accounted for in Rope Tied to the Trigger's lyrics and titles. There's no denying Scars of Tomorrow's blistering passion. But why not opt for a different raft of adjectives, to make that passion and power stand apart from the jaws-snapping pack? - from allmusic.com 3.5 stars This album is great but all the way through. Mostly 1,2,3,4,7,8, and 10 are good songs. The only thing bad is that there style is almost the same. but for what they do is really good. if you get sick of the singing and happy guitar riffs. than listen to this album. I did the allmusic.com review cause they do a good job of describing the albums.

This CD is absolutely brutal. Still, to this day, I have not found a CD this brutal. "Deaf to our Prayers" by Heaven Shall Burn is the only other CD I can think of that might match the intensity of this CD. I wish Scars of Tomorrow would sound like this again...

this cd should be an essential one in anyone's hardcore cd collection. I saw these guys with bury your dead(another really good band) and man these guys are flawless. every song they played sounded like the version on the cd. which is very rare. Standout tracks: abandonement, as we choke, suffocating words, reflections. All songs are incredibly good though, so buy the cd, it's definitely worth it.

Heavy and Brutal Metalcore,
By Tom Servo "Robot" (Satelite of Love) - See all my reviews

Scars of Tomorrow is absolutely amazing. It's good to see that not everyone is trying to be the chaotic metalcore bands (ala Botch, Dillinger Escape Plan, Norma Jean, Symphony in Peril, and The Chariot) and that they all aren't trying toi fuse with the Gothenberg style (ala As I Lay Dying, ZAO, and Society's Finest) and these guys are also willing to play around with their sound. These guys are a sigh of relief in a scene that was quickly becoming dull, but metalcore seems to be bouncing back. Scars of Tomorrow are one of the best out there and if one is into hardcore and metalcore you should definately check this out and also pick up Bewtween The Buried and Me, The Red Chord, Blood Has Been Shed, and Remembering Never while you are at it.

The guitar tone and production on this album alone is enough to blow you away, but when it's combined with great riffs, melodies and vocals then it's even sweeter.
The first song I heard on this album was Abandonment, which was on a free sampler that came with Atreyu's new album The Curse. Needless to say, I got instant wood! This CD was the best purchase of the year for me so far, and I am confident that you will feel the same way as I do once you get your grubby little hands on it. Apart form that, there is nothing more that I can say that the other reviewers haven't already, so get off your ass and head to your local record store and pick this baby up. Cheers. |
