The story of Rosalinda,
By Nana2000 (Virginia, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rosalinda (DVD)
Here comes a bit a plot-spoiler, so please be advised:
The story is that 20 years before, Rosalinda's mother, Soledad, is imprisoned for a crime she did not commit, the murder of José Fernando Altamirano. In jail, she gives her daughter over to her sister and asks that she never tells anyone. So Rosalinda grows up not knowing that her mother is in reality her aunt. Rosalinda has two sisters (cousins), Fedra and Lucy, and a brother (Cousin) Beto. Rosalinda works in a flower shop. One day she is delivering flowers to a restaurant where she meets Fernando José ---- the son of the guy her mother is in prison for murdering! Rosalinda's mother (aunt) dies and her real mother comes out of prison. She poses as aunt Marta. That is when the problems begin. The villain of the story is Valeria, Fernando José's stepmother, who will tell him that Marta is actually Soledad. So Fernando José leaves Rosalinda and Valeria steals Rosalinda's baby, and Rosalinda goes crazy.... She is sent to a hospital, that later burns down. Everyone believes her dead, but instead she is now living as Paloma Dorantes, who becomes a singer. Well, as you see the plot is all you can expect of a telenovela. The acting by Fernando Carrillo (Fernando José) is terrible, but Thalia isn't that bad in this one. Nora Salinas is convincing as Fedra, Rosalinda's cousin and a villain of the story. I also noticed there is no singing at all, even though Rosalinda becomes a singer. And the song "Ay Amor!" (Rosalinda) is missing all together. The additional material is nothing almost, just a short video in which Thalia lip-synchs the song and a "Best Kisses" special (which I didn't watch). All together, I give it three stars. If you like telenovelas in DVD, Rosalinda is an okay one. It is 550 minutes long and it has an English subtitle option. Rosalinda comes in two DVDs, both two-sided and is divided into 16 chapters. --- 10/16/2011 Thanks to the one person who didn't find my review helpful, now I dropped a total of 4%... whereas I previously had a 100% I now have a 96%. Not that I care. But if you wouldn't mind, can you comment so that I know what the problem was? I did warn of the spoiler.

ROSALINDA: NIGHTMARE,
By Kaan BALCI "kaanbalci" (Turkey) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rosalinda (DVD)
For some people TELENOVELAS (soap operas) are dull, cliché, moron, stupid, stomachache... Well, I have to respect those...
And for some people they are piece of art which come from the heart of some culture. TELENOVELAS, for me are the art of Mexican culture, which I adore most. Since my childhood, I have been watching telenovelas; yes though I am a male and though I am educated. For some time I remember novelas from Mexico, Argentina, Brazil... But, my favorite ones are all from TELEVISA MEXICO. I watched; Abrazame Muy Furete, Maria La Del Barrio, La Usurpadora, Por Un Beso, Entre El Amor y El Odio... and many more. But, my all times favorite is 1999 air "ROSALINDA" (Televisa), starring Thalia (my only obsession) and Fernando Carrillo. It was my low times, having started a life in another city away from my hometown to study in the university. Cold and blue about building personal relationships... I had only one warm room with my air antenna and only one channel that can reach out for my poor conditions. "ROSALINDA"... Ay AMOR! This novela gave back all the fire that has to be in my heart. This novela, Thalia, saved me everytime I thought of "over"... "Rosalinda" The music, the rhythm of my whole being... ROSALINDA... MI AMOR! In my country, "Rosalinda" aired trice. I ended up all of it. Now in year 2005, Rosalinda is released as a DVD (9 hours edit) alongside a lot of other SUPERB novelas like "Abrazame Muy Fuerte", "La Usurpadora"... I ordered my copy from AMAZON.com. When I received it I decided to end up each 'lado' of DVD in one night (that makes ~2,5 hours a side). Today is my last side... Rosalinda ended in my DVD, once more... I am heartbroken. I am down. I am wet-eyed. I feel abused. I feel cheated. I feel... Whatever... First of all, all my congrats go to TELEVISA. It is perfect to release novelas, as I think they are best objects of MEXICAN ART. All and all my curses go to TELEVISA too! What is the point of pulling out the BESTEST NOVELA THEME EVER, away from the NOVELA itself... I can't believe Emilio Estefan, Jr product "Rosalinda" theme is not used in this milestone of Televisa Novelas... They replaced it with a cheap midi sequence that makes me kamikaze to my monitor. Story edit is superb, yet all major high-points were passivized with pulling out the novela theme. In the original, Thalia becomes a singer (Paloma Dorantes) and debutes with "Te Quiero Tanto" in a garden concert. NOT SINGING IN DVD In the original, Thalia gets back her memory and goes on her career as a singer (Rosalinda Perez) and sings "Rosalinda" several times in cabaret costumes.... NOT ON DVD, just a midi sequence showing Thalia lip sync with a MELODY ONLY!!!!!!!! In the original, Rosalinda Perez takes care of her pet bird singing it "Amor A La Mexicana" and Soledad Romero asks her "What if it speaks and tells you 'I'm not Mexican'?"... THALIA IS NOT SINGING IN ANY PART OF HER NOVELA RELATED A HUNDRED PERCENT WITH SINGING... If anyone can explain me why a theme would be erased and without even blushing they CLAIM that the Rosalinda trailer had this awful midi sequence... They had put an "extra" option in the final DVD... That makes me live in a nightmare! No song, yet still claiming that the "thing" is Rosalinda's original video clip... SCANDAL FOR A NETWORK MAJOR LIKE TELEVISA.

This DVD does NOT contain the whole series. They chopped it down so that it makes no sense and the sound quality is very poor.

Quality wise is very good, pity that it had to "made" fit in 2 DVDs so it has been "trimmed" a lot.

Thalia as Rosalinda,
By
This review is from: Rosalinda (DVD)
I am watching it on TV, yes it's airing again. It no doubt is a classic. I really had problems trying to think of Thalia as an actress. I really tried to like her in the maria series but she was young and her acting was, well below par (I'm really trying to be nice!) I love her as a singer and in Rosalinda I could really start to see her grow as an actress.

Thalia reigns! Fernando Carillo is hotter than ever!,
This review is from: Rosalinda (DVD)
This dvd arrived to me as amazon promised... no doubt, ROSALINDA was my favorite mexican series... the whole story was there... my only complaint was, it was squeeze into 2 dvds (double-faced)... making you feel that you're watching a REALLY as in really fast-paced series... you won't be able to absorb the story coz the changing of the scenes were very fast.
I should have love it if they make atleast 10 dvds... O well, better than none! still it's a keepstake! Fernando Carillo was the only reason why i bought the series... hahaha... but otherwise STILL i love the story and everything in it!

WHY DID THEY CUT OUT SEVERAL PARTS OF THE SHOW?,
By
This review is from: Rosalinda (DVD)
Loved the story, but why is so much cut out of the original presentation?
Thalia is never shown performing (upclose), and many of these scenes are cut out all together. I was also very upset that there are no English subtitles....or any other language options. Does anyone know where I can get an English subtitled version that is actually an un-edited copy?? HELP! cellphonesusie@hotmail.com

A good novela and thalias last in Mexico,
By Caramel (Reseda, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rosalinda (DVD)
If you are expecting a knock out performance by Thalia like she did in Marimar or in Maria Mercedes than this is not the novela for you. Rosalinda was good novela and had the major ingredients that encompass all of Televisa telenovelas, poor girl meets rich boy they fall in love, they get married, he leaves her over a misunderstanding, she suffers, they get divorced, he apologizes, she forgives his betrayals, in the end they get married and live happily ever after.
Problem with the DVD as with many of the other novela DVDs that they are not showing the orignal theme song of the novela. I don't know if its for copyrights since some of the songs were written or sung by latino artists but that sucks. If we are paying 16.00 to 18.00 we should as the buyer get are moneys worth. I hope televisa corrects this in the future. |
