Grade 1–2—These early chapter books begin and end in the time-out chair. In Friends, Roscoe's first-grade class is getting ready for open house. It's supposed to involve a performance of singing bumblebees followed by dessert. However, add one hyper, trouble-finding boy (Roscoe) with a tube of Super-Mega-Gonzo Glue and too many bright ideas and you've got a recipe for disaster. In Sweater, Roscoe trades an itchy sweater that his grandmother made him for his neighbor's dog so he can enter the animal in a pet show. The protagonist always means well and the adults can usually see a big heart behind his antics—after they've calmed down a bit. Both stories are fun reads with simple and amusing cartoon illustrations. The real Ivan lived alone in a tiny cage for twenty-seven years at a shopping mall before being moved to Zoo Atlanta after a public outcry. He is now a beloved celebrity at the zoo, which houses the nation’s largest collection of western lowland gorillas. Ivan is well known for his paintings, which he “signs” with a thumb-print.

My 8 year old son began reading this series last year. He is an excellent reader but does not really find books very interesting. Roscoe has been very engaging for himand he actually picks up a new Roscoe book before playing his video games. He enjoys Roscoe's antics and stays up late reading these books. He says he would like to continue reading the series, I will continue to purchase Roscoe books for him.

We've all known (or are related to) a Roscoe: Well meaning but not quite there yet as far as making good decisions goes...He means well but doesn't see the commonality or general intent of rules: no sword fighting doesn't mean light sabers are out... because they aren't swords. Great voice, well written, and really enjoyable :).
