5.0 out of 5 stars A Rose Blooms April 14, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A Very Good Read. I found the characters very well developed, the story entertaining and insightful and the personal spiritual journey of the main character real. Having been through something like Rose Brownlee twice myself, I easily identified with her journey. I loved the history of the mid-west during the late 1800's. I appreciated that the romance was not the central focus of the story, but it was a pleasant surprise. Thanks Vikki, for a great read and I'm looking forward to the next book. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an entertaining read and help in your walk with the Lord. And I was not given a copy of this book to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Light Christian fiction August 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book had a light touch and a simple message: reliance on God. I loved the Biblical themes that bloomed in the story. An example of heaven on Earth is clearly illustrated, and I would expect that there will be readers who will want to experience more of the joy that comes from drawing strength from God. I really enjoyed reading this book and meeting such wonderful characters and seeing how God's love can build families.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Rose Blooms Twice September 10, 2012

I like this book and thought it was well written. It was my first time reading this particular author and I want to read more from her. The book talks about a woman becoming a widow and deciding to go out west for a change of scenery and deciding to live there.Money is not a problem for her as her husband has left her well off. I liked that she was making an impact on the community and in turn it impacts her. She finds God in a rural country church. The realization that she had thought she was a Christian all along and how she discovers the Lord is a relavant theme even for this day and age.

3.0 out of 5 stars Needs serious editing October 20, 2012
By Georgia
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The writing is smooth but the book needs editing for setting and timeline. Narrowing the timeline would engage the reader when it comes to facts. Many of the historical facts are amiss as well.

I grew up in NEBRASKA next to the Oregon Trail and in a German community. Even today, Old World customs and mores prevail. Same with IA and the Scandinavian communities. (I own farmland there and married into that culture.) Even today, a story with the evangelical viewpoint as you wrote it won't penetrate. There is strong sentiment in these communities because of former persecution in the area of religion. I am a Christian who believes as you do but understand their hesitations. You need to complicate the salvation message via your characters because it is to simplistic forfor belief and to reach readers as written. I work in this area and have almost lost family members over this. Women still sit separate from the men in several churches, even today.

Also, money transfer and banks did not operate a smoothly as in the story. A history check via Google confirmed that.

Widows and grieving, then and now, was a far stretch in the story. You are stunned, especially in a multiple and spousal death. Sorry to say I know this firsthand. A century ago, laws on the books prevented women in many areas. Insurance in the last century was not normal, even i. Rich families....hence Wall Street and speculation.

I enjoyed the book but trust the author will be careful as she writes the sequel. It is set in the Colorado foothills west of Denver. I have lived in the foothills for over 35 years so hope she can get a local person to confirm the facts to suspend the reader into the fiction story.

Totally enjoyed this book. There were areas than could have used a book editor. Plus, having had milk goats for many years, having them referred to as Ewe's confused me, female sheep are Ewes, female goats are Does.

I received this book free on my Kindle. It is one of the better books I have read. The bible teachings in here were wonderful. Made you want to stop and read the passages yourself.
Wish she had more like this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down February 20, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have a bad habit of reading the first chapter, skipping to the end and reading the last chapter and then determining if I want to read the rest of the book. I followed my pattern for this book but was so intrigued by the ending that I had to read the rest of it. I couldn't quite figure out the ending .... so I had to read more :) It was not as cookie cutter as Love Inspired. It is set in one of my favorite time periods and settings in American History - highly recommend reading it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hang in there, it will really bless you! February 6, 2013

I too had a problem with the beginning of the book. I came to a point that I was not going to continue reading when I got the feeling that I should give the author a chance. I am so glad I did, as I continued on, I just could not put the book down. Would read through my husband watching TV, go to bed and finally at 1:30 AM close the book, only to start reading the first thing in the AM. I was able to actually picture the scenes as Vikki described them and to get the emotions of all involved. What a wonderful read. Thanks Vikki. I also purchased Joy comes to the Mountain because I wanted to know what happened to the family. It was as good, if not better, full of happy and sad times, love, joy, mystery that keeps you on edge and you will be suprised at the ending. Can't wait to see what is next.
