4.0 out of 5 stars A good CD filled with hits.
Who said that a former undertaker can't make it big in country music? Well, John Conlee made it! If you only purchase one John Conlee CD--make it this one. The title cut is sad (yet truthful) and I found myself humming it long after I had turned of my CD player. 3.0 out of 5 stars worth it for the title track alone
Rose Colored Glasses will eventually stand the test of time as one of the all time classic C/W songs. Poignant, stirring lyrics will stay with you long after you've forgotten Garth, Shanaia, et.al. A rather simple song about loving more than being loved, and unable to let go, Rose Colored Glasses will stay with you after a single listen.

The title cut is sad (yet truthful) and I found myself humming it long after I had turned of my CD player. Probably the biggest hit from this lineup is Conlee's "Backside of Thirty" which I think will appeal to any man who's approaching 40 or who has been there. "I'll Be Easy" is a fun, light-sounding song and "Lady Lay Down" was heard a lot on the radio in the early 80s. This CD will surely bring back some memories--try it!

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm Not A Country Music Fan...But I Love This Guy!!, October 19, 2005
This review is from: Rose Colored Glasses (Audio CD)
I'll never forget hearing "Rose Colored Glasses" on the radio as a child years ago. John Conlee has a distinctive voice that is well suited to singing sad songs about the hard knocks we all face along life's journey.

Since then, I've never been much of a country music fan. However, certain artists can perfectly capture the spirit of a music genre. What the Rolling Stones are to rock, what Mozart is to classical, what Miles Davis is to jazz, John Conlee is to country-- near perfect!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Rose colored glasses" the song that sent Conlee's career into orbit!, May 16, 2010
This review is from: Rose Colored Glasses (Audio CD)
Rose colored glasses was John Conlee's debut album release,
and of course includes his signature song, "Rose colored glasses".
This c.d. catapult his career in orbit.
And he didn't slow down any for ten years!
Here are his first three charted singles, the b-side of each,
and four album cuts, on this ten tracks c.d.

All three were top ten hits.
1. "Roses colored glasses" b/w "I'll be easy" 1978.
2. "Lady lay down" b/w "Somthing special" 1978.
3. "Backside of thirty" b/w "Hold on" 1979.

Conlee's warm voice, and good music made him one of country's best singers.
From 1978 to 1990 Conlee had 32 songs chart.
This album is good country music!

3.0 out of 5 stars So cheesy, so good., March 29, 2009

I have a dirty little secret - I love this album. I know, I know. It's fluffy 70's country, with string sections and a mix that seems to have been done by someone with a tin ear. The songs are all sappy, maudlin and so very, very fun. Conlee is mostly forgotten except when it comes time for those compilation shows where they run "best songs of". But the guy had a great voice, and it shows on this CD.
This isn't outlaw country, but it isn't supposed to be. And it is as cutting edge as a Barney record. But play a few songs and let yourself sink into the warm voice, the wildly overproduced (or lush) background and I think you will revel in the heartfelt schmaltz.

When I was a kid my dad would play this album every night, when I was going to sleep. I wanted to buy him the cd for a little gift. It sounds great, but still has that classic sound instead of being remastered.

This is a very good albun. I think most of the songs you will
want to hear more than once. Most albuns you only get one or
two you really like. Not this one.
