I really wanted to like this book a lot more than I actually did. The concept was good as was the overall storyline, however the adult themes did not mesh with the young adult writing style. I would have also enjoyed seeing a red pen taken to the mundane portions of the text, this book could have and should have been condensed down to a much more managable size.

I would highly recommend this book, I couldn't put it down if I tried. It pulls you in from start to finish. Don't Miss Out, this book is worth the time. GREAT READ!!! Can't wait for more from the author.

I really liked the love story between Tristan and Bridget. It was intense and special. There were a few editing errors, but it didn't take away from the story. Now I want to know about the other characters in the book and what happened to them, especially Jake and Justin. Loved this story.

A wonderful love story with a little of everything in it,

I have to say that this book definitely has a little of everything in it. I found it to be a wonderful love story. I think most women dream of finding that one person to spend the rest of their lives with who is their soul mate. The one person who is your perfect match. The love scenes were HOT HOT HOT. The chemistry between the two main characters was so strong that I found myself wishing that I could be Bridget, the female main character. I've never been a big romance novel reader but I'm glad my co-worker recommended the book to me. I could not put It down. It had romance, sex, intrigue, fantasy, and loss. I really enjoyed reading it and I recommend that anyone with a romantic heart should read it.

CREEPY!!,

Exactly what is romantic in a book written about a real person (Toby Hemingway) whose name is then changed to "Tristan Hathaway" for the purposes of being able to print it legally?! Not to mention, sending poor Mr. Hemingway and his *brother* a copy of it? Creepy!!
This book is terribly written. It reads something like trashy fanfiction, with horrendous amounts of easily fixed mistakes and almost embarrassingly bad sex scenes. The characters are completely unbelievable, and I would hazard a guess that the author has never actually met a British person in her entire life. I would sincerely not waste your money on this nonsense.

A very poor effort,

The sex scenes in this book are what I would term 'romance by ikea' - unimaginative and wooden at best. The rest of the book has very little to say for itself; poorly thought out, poorly written, poorly edited and full of nauseatingly florid metaphors and glaring mistakes.

Too few positives, too many negatives.,

I really tried to like this. There were points where the writing flowed easily (I particularly enjoyed the first day Tristan and Bridget spent together, because it was sweetly romantic, though I did find it slightly unbelievable as they had just met), but ultimately there were too many negatives.First, there was the lack of fully developed characters. The character with the most personality was Tristan, and even then he failed to be fully three-dimensional to me. I honestly found most of the characters to be little more than caricatures. The story suffers from serious pacing issues. There are multiple issues at fault with this: the first being that you could probably cut out three to four hundred pages of the book and still have a perfectly workable plot, because nothing plot relevant happens in most of these pages. The biggest problem with this is the fact that because of so much unnecessary material, the paranormal romance barely shows up until very close to the end and feels tacked on, which is a shame because there are obviously hints of paranormal romance before it happens, but because of the sheer length of this novel it's very easy to forget and feels more tacked on as a result. A big problem, related to pacing issues, is the shallow focus on what everyone is wearing. I rolled my eyes at the long descriptions; we don't need to know where their clothes came from or how the straps on the tank top Character X is wearing are situated. Other than one or two sex scenes, the multiple sex scenes serve no purpose to the plot, which pretty much grinds to a halt every time the characters have sex. This might not be so bad if the sex scenes were well-written, but they aren't, and feel like the very definition of IKEA erotica, at least the ones that are unnecessary (the sex scenes that are necessary for the plot are well-written, which makes the unnecessary ones stand out ridiculously). My last big issue really bugs me, because of how long the novel is. Despite the fact the novel is 600+ pages, the relationship between Bridget and Tristan feels very rushed. From my understanding of the plot, they were married less than a year after knowing each other. Soul mates or not, a year seems way too short a time to meet someone and marry them. I really tried, but everything came back to pacing issues and made me dislike the novel overall.

This was my first Kindle purchase nearly a year ago. I had read a few free PNRs from Amazon, and was interested in reading more about fallen angels. I did some searching and found April Bostic's website, reading her take on fallen angels and a synopsis of this novel. I was interested but still not sure if I would like it enough to purchase it. I ordered the sample just to be sure. I devoured it and just could not get to the buy now button fast enough when I finished it.I was semi-obsessed with the Tristan and Bridget saga for the next few days. I just couldn't find enough time in my day to get enough of it, and stayed up very late not wanting to stop reading to sleep. I couldn't believe I was so absorbed in their story. Even with what the negative reviews of this book say and some of the complaints that others have touched on, they didn't turn me off enough to find out for myself how the story came together in the end. A few times I thought I knew where it would lead and how the resolution would come about, and each time I was wrong. When it was done, I had worked through so many emotions that I didn't want it to be over. The end was shocking and I thanked the heavens for an epilogue when I had to read the ending through tears. The epilogue added even more than I could have expected and was definitely an amazing part of the book. I have found myself searching for a novel that can compare to this one since. I have found ones that I like, but none that I've held onto quite as much as I do the love story between Tristan and Bridget. It's been almost a year and I've read many PNR, UF, romance, sci-fi romance and historical romance novels, etc. However, each time I return to A Rose To The Fallen, I find myself re-reading it with a dopey grin on my face and enjoying it maybe a little bit more than I did the last time. I can say that it's definitely one of my personal favorites. Many thanks to April Bostic for sharing it with us and I hope she decides to write more in the future even though she says otherwise. Also...This is my first book review. I waited this long to review it because I didn't want to give it a gushing review before reading many others in this genre. The more I read, the more I return to this novel with admiration of the author's capability to draw you in and forget reality in the wake of her incredible love story. It's one you won't soon forget!

A wonderful read !,
By Livia Cullen "Twilight Fangirl" (Paris, France) - See all my reviews

I won't say a word about the plot, about what it is about: I'll keep the surprise for you. But, just to say a few words: it is about the simplest thing ever, the thing everyone craves, everyone talks about: love. It's a love story. A wonderful and heartbreakingly beautiful love story between two characters: Bridget and Tristan.
First, let me say that I hardly ever cry when I read a book but this one made cry. A whole lot. But in a kinda good way. It is very emotional and the beautifully written words really get that through. I'll now say a word about the sex. Of course the sex. Yummy !!!! Butterflies in the stomach, gasping breath, exploding heart and panties wetting erotic scenes. So so so well written, you'll feel it in your throat (in other places as well...). I can only say good things about this book and I recommend it to everyone. To every girl who likes a wonderful love story, a ordinary story about two people in love which become extraordinary ! An absolute must-read ! And also, for those sceptics about a love-story: the characters as well as the plot are very thorough and very well developped. The plot is breathtaking and will keep you on your toes until the end !

Serious editing is needed,
This review is from: A Rose to the Fallen (Paperback)
The book overall really needs an editor. There are -many- mistakes throughout, including missing words, repeated thoughts, a whole repeated paragraph, and forgetting what was already established (example: a couple in the book gets married and about a page later they are referred to as boyfriend and girlfriend).
I also don't feel for, or care about the main character.. I was just overall very frustrated throughout the whole book, with the mistakes and the fact that I couldn't relate to their relationship. The idea behind this, that of love and soulmates are for eternity, is endearing and would make an awesome story. This was just executed not so well. |
