Book Description

Young and impressionable, Colette had fallen in love with Luke Marlis on sight. Because she was plain and insignificant, he hadn't even noticed her. Then fate changed Colette's life drastically, and years later she was a different person. Not only was she rich, but her looks had changed as well; she'd acquired a sophistication all her own. So when she found herself stranded on Luke's island in the Aegean, she felt confident. This time, though, Luke was more than interested! He wanted her - but not, it seemed, enough to marry her...

Colette w/ the ugly blemish on her face falls in love w/ her step sister's handsome, rich keeper, Luke. I'm not sure how she could fall so fast and deeply in love w/ this guy as he doesn't seem to want to look at her ugly mug! When Elspeth, the step sister, tells him of Colette's crush he says, "Good God! Apart from her being a green girl, there's that hideous birthmark! Does she think that I - or anyone else for that matter - would be interested in her?"

Colette wishes to save her mother from her evil stepfather, but she isn't sure how. She always thought it was appalling that Elspeth would marry a man for money and how she would NEVER do that. Yet, when the opportunity presents itself, in the form of a pleasant, hardworking man offering marriage despite the mark on her face, Colette jumps at it. Conveniently, after three years of marriage IIRC, he promptly dies in a car accident taking her mother w/ him and almost taking her as well! Colette after undergoing several reconstructive surgeries from the accident inherits all of her husband's money and not must go find something to do. She goes on a cruise and comes across the womanizing H, Luke, again after an 8 year absence!

Colette had been pining for Luke throughout the last 8 years, even while lying about loving her husband and keeping a memento from the nasty Luke. I kept looking for something to like about Collette as well but found myself failing every time. She lied to her hubby and then upon seeing Luke again she promptly lies to him about her identity.

Colette seemed to enjoy rewriting history as well. She acted as though he was just plain nasty to Elspeth in the past but during the opening of the book she described him as being tender w/ Elspeth. This story continuously felt like Colette only wanted what Elspeth had claimed she could never get - Luke! As though she needed to prove to Elspeth that she could indeed get him for her-self something that Elspeth could never accomplish.

Luke doesn't give Colette AKA Jennifer his sir name and then remarks that she is awfully familiar w/ him by using his Christian name. What was she supposed to call him?

Luke only wants to know strange women better if they are beautiful and desirable - which should tell her something but fails to click for her. He is arrogant but it seems he is now willing to dip his wick w/ her and she is giddy. She plays coy and hard to get not wanting to do that - after all she is playing for keeps while he is just playing. She wants to return to the ship but Luke promises her they can be platonic friends if she will stay - apparently platonic friends now kiss and cup your breasts.
I wondered what the point of some of the conversations in this book were as Colette doesn't seem to respond. It seemed more like one of those video games where the characters come up to yours and say something but don't expect a response.

I loved this when it was remarked upon: Luke can spot beauty in any circumstances - so explain his overlooking of her when she was 17 because there is no real explanation. If he had said I was attracted but you were too young .... Then maybe but he never did. UUGGGHHHH and Luke kept calling her a child, why couldn't he say dear or something?

There is OW that comes on the scene as well, but that wasn't fully fleshed out either. For some reason Colette was warned off about this other woman but then N-O-T-H-I-N-G happens in regards to her. She was told that woman could be poisonous but she wasn't!!!

There is closure w/ Elspeth though as she conveniently shows up as well and she wants to fight "Jennifer" for Luke as well. Of course Luke then puts it all together across the dinner table w/ Colette and Elspeth. He has an apology in his eyes for what he had done and said years ago - seriously? Because now he knows that Jennifer is Colette. OM saw the beauty beneath the blemish all those years ago - yeah I know it was stated SEE ABOVE about Luke's ability to spot beauty. Now he is being tender - but wait she had seen him that way before when he was putting on an act but this is all real now - of course we are to trust her because this is what she wants. She already said that he was tender w/ Elspeth long time ago. He was drawn to her from moment he saw her - after saving her in the water?! With her beautiful unblemished face, not years ago!!

Luke really only wanted down her pants, Jennifer's that is - oh but at the back of his mind he wanted more - this is to persuade you to trust him, but I don't. All that Last Love stuff was a bunch of baloney for me and I seriously got tired of that phrase!!!
