One of the best books I've read.,
This review is from: Rose of the Prophet (Paperback)
Since the beginning of time twenty gods have ruled in heaven, each absolute in their ownsphere, but also limited by their inability to see beyond their own ideals. One god, however, upsets the balance and mortals are required to set it right. Zohra, Khardan and Matthew - an unlikely group of heroes. Hate and love rage between A spellbinding book, from beginning to end. Adventure, intrigue, romance and comedy A MUST for all readers, even if fantasy is not usually your "thing". There are few books

Excellent!,
This review is from: Rose of the Prophet (Paperback)
The Rose of the Prophet.... ahh, now this reminded me so much of my own viewpoint of life. There is a sayne among the desert people this book revolves upon. one asks the other 'what is the reward for liveing well?' 'death' he replies 'and the punishment for living badly?' 'death' he replies again The story starts out with the world as a jewel with many different faccets. In the time before, the jewel reflected evenly the different facets of the truth - as time wore on however the Gods created out of each facet of the truth only focus on their particular aspect, narrowing their minds. This story includes the battles of the heavens, and the facets of truth among the gods schemeing and imortals granted residence on the mortal plane. A more touching story however is a desert tribe of people... two warring factions are suddenly thrown together in a marriage ordered by their god. Hatred born of generations old grudges, brought to flower by shame and self doubt. These two young people find their way in war with the help of a strange forginer who fights his own war of shame benieth a golden crown of red hair.

Very Good!,

I've read this book 3 times and I still love it. I like this book because I was tired of the old same fantasy with "pure white vs pure black", tired of elf and drow, tired of all the old style. I found this book refreshing and now my only wish is to travel in the dry and hot country of Khardan ans Zohra. The writig is wonderful and the caracters are extremly developed. I really liked Pukah and Mathiew! I think it's a must read.

One of my all time favorites,

The Rose of the Prophet trilogy is one of my all time favorites. No matter how many times I read these books, I find then exciting, creative, and just plain different. Weis and Hickman put a very interesting twist on fantasy literature in this quality series.

Fantasy at it's best - we all need some cheese now and then,
By munkey "puzld" (san francisco) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rose of the Prophet (Paperback)
I'm not going to lie... this book has a fair amount of fluff and cheese involved. However, Rose of the Prophet is also one of the best Fantasy books ever. This easily tops all of the Dragonlance material in my opinion... hell, I even recommended this series to my Mom (who doesn't normally read this type of stuff) and she absolutely loved it, and finished all three books in around 2 days or so.Don't get me wrong, there is most definitely a good amount of substance and rawness under the cheese... and there are a good amount of dark scenarios at work here.... which blends with the almost soap-opera type character interactions into a surprisingly irresistable mix. And just because I really really mean it: please try reading this book to the 'Loop Bites Dog' CD by Loop Guru. I can't recommend their music enough for Sci-Fi / Fantasy reads... it literally transforms the book into something in between novel and movie. Your imagination will love you for it.

Absolutly fantastic series! I loved it. While not as good as some of the author's best works, such as Dragon's of Summer Flame, the series was brilliant.I most assuredly recommend all fantasy lovers to buy a copy right now a read it.

It can be a bit dark at times, but this book is just great. The mood is intense: a harsh desert where living is a day by day struggle. The weak don't survive here, Folks. Due to the exceptional characterization, you can just feel Zohra's strength and disagreeable nature. As they grow weaker, you can feel the desperation and fear in the gods' actions. And you can feel Khardan's vemhenence as he refuses to denounce Akran. Please excuse all misspellings: I'm not good with names.

The book was wonderful, the sad thing is..I don't have the other two! If anyone knows where I could get the other two books in the seris it would be a great help. Thanks much, Zohra is so stubborn, but that's what makes her such an interesting character.

One of the best fantasy trilogies ever writen!,

This review is from: Rose of the Prophet (Paperback)
I loved this series! The characters have lots of depth from the passionate and stubborn Zohra, to the courageous if naive Khardan to Mathew who has to fight his inner demons. Lets not forget the immortals, my favorite being Pukah who is in love with the gentle angel, Asrial who doesn't want to feel the same. The book had me in stitches from the first page to last and I couldn't put it down. I recomend this trilogy to anyone who likes fantasy books.
