Book Description

March 1, 2011
With trademark precision and razor-sharp wit, Inga Muscio explores the impacts of passive violence, abuse, war, and cultural trauma on our most intimate lives in order to uncover a path toward healthy and imaginative sex and love.
Rose breaks new ground in answering a fundamental question in most feminist and antiracist writing: how do we identify, witness, and then recover from trauma—as individuals, as families, as communities, and as a country? Muscio's ability to address dire topics with a unique freshness and bravery allows her readers to confront the true brutality of a violent culture, then to react powerfully with righteous rage and hopeful determination.
Chilling, eye-opening, and thoroughly enjoyable, Rose offers a fresh and exhilarating perspective on achieving empowerment and self-possession.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inga Muscio tells it like it is February 14, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I will read anything by Inga Muscio. She has a gift for plain speaking from the experience of the heart that encourages the reader to make associations and feel that she is right there alongside the author. This book asks the reader to make some uncomfortable realizations that at the same time feel good for having uncovered the knowing and shining the light on it. Muscio should be mandatory reading for public education curricula, as well as members of the US Congress and the Senate who think women are lowly vessels of sin...ugh!

exactly what i needed to read. has the same basic thesis as derrick jensen's 'a language older than words,' but half the size and without all the wanky academic excessiveness. love it love it, read it now, you'll be glad you did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ringing Clear and True, Like a Bell December 11, 2011
Format:Paperback
*Rose: Love in Violent Times* is arguably the best book I've read. Granted, I'm only 17, so I've plenty of time to read more books that could be better. This book is the best because it directly addresses all the problems I try to escape when I open a book. It rang deeply in the core of my being, and I know that what she says is true. If someone were to ask me what I think of America and what my philosophy on life was, I would hand them this book, because she explains far better than I ever could what I've always felt was true. Not only has it helped me deal with the violence I have always known and disliked, it has assisted me in my social interactions. I was reading it during tech week for a dance show, and I found myself reading aloud some sections because she's so humorous! I've read it a couple of times now, and I'm going to reread it again soon so I can highlight and comment. I also really want to read the books she references in *Rose*. It was a fabulous book, and I wish everybody would read and understand it, because maybe then people would be happier.
