More About the Author

I have been writing thrillers for many years and have experienced the highs and lows of being a writer. My first novel, NORTH SLOPE was published in 1980, and is now available as a POD paperback and Kindle on Amazon. I have been married to Patricia for fifty four years and we live in Spain. We have four sons, ten grandchildren and one great grandson. My hobby is writing, of course, and to date I have had eight novels published. You can see my list in Author Central. My other hobbies are snooker, speedway, football and music. I play snooker, watch football and speedway, and play the keyboard (not too well). I am a born again Christian and played keyboard in my fellowship for several years. I worked as a maintenance technician most of my adult life, serving sixteen years in the Royal Air Force, and about seventeen years with a food manufacturer. I retired in 1996 (I was fifty five years old) and moved out to Spain a year later. Pat and I have lived here, on the Costa Blanca for seventeen years. We are now planning to return to the UK. Other jobs I have done include Merchant Seaman, Office boy, and general maintenance for a chicken farmer! I have received many excellent comments about my writing, but the proof of the pudding, as they say, is in the eating. I am a member of the International Thriller Writers and used to be a contributing editor with them. In 2009, I worked on a global project with eleven other writers and produced a novel called PASSAGE TO REDEMPTION. This is now available as a POD novel and Kindle by Acclaimed Books Ltd. (www.acclaimedbooks.com) of which I am an associate. For those of you who want to know a little more about me, and see me 'in the flesh', check out my website at www.michaeljparker.com, where you'll be able to see a couple of TV interviews I have had. My last thriller novel titled THE BOY FROM BERLIN was released in December 2011. It has been picked up by Harlequin who have purchased (leased) the English language paperback rights for North America and Canada. This has been published (2013) now in paperback. Meannwhile my current paperbacks; NORTH SLOPE, a COVERT WAR ROSELLI'S GOLD, HELL'S GATE, THE DEVIL'S TRINITY, and SHADOW OF THE WOLF (March 2013) are available on Amazon and Kindle. THE EAGLE'S COVENANT paperback is available on Amazon.co.uk only because Harlequin have now agreed to publish THE EAGLE'S COVENANT in USA and Canada. This is a story set in modern Germany. It is one of my favourites and I have high hopes for it on the American market. My latest title, PAST IMPERFECT will be published by my London publisher, Hale, in 2014. This is a romance with a rough edged back story. Something of a change from my other titles.

This was a somewhat quasi-historic book that started in 1941 and ended in 1968 or thereabouts and included the oldest Italian family, the Vatican, and the intrusion of a war that affected so many individuals, World War II. But the book was not about war or about the Mafia but about making the right decisions in the face of incredible odds.

Also, it touched on responsibility and hope and all that's good.

The book wasn't easy to get through though but it was worth reading all the way through.

The characters grow on you and even though there were tough times they pulled through and that made the whole book a pleasure to read.

I thoroughly recommend this book and specially so if you have any interest in second world war events and the involvement between the vatican and the mafia. It's definitely a different way to look at events that happened during this time.

The book appears to have been well researched and well written.
Enjoy

I'm not much of a reader, but I read this book in 2 days. I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed the pictures the author painted. The suroundings were vivid in my mind. There were many portions of the book that I really felt for the characters. The author helped me get to know them.

There were a few odd things that popped up that sidetracked my mind just a moment and pulled me out of the story, but I enjoyed the story enough to step past those things and continue reading.

I was fortunate to find this book on a free day, but I recommend it to everyone, even at a normal price. Very worth my time. I'll keep my eye on this author and check out their other ebooks as well.

I have always wondered what happened to the heroes of the North Africa battles ofWWII. if you like suspense, drama, excitement, and just plain fun reading follow Roselli's actions during and after the war. You will love every page of this story. I have always wanted to say,"it was a book I just couldn't put down until I finished it" Finally I found one. Get Roselli's Gold I bet you won't put it down either! A great piece of work by Mr. Parker. I'll be buying more of his works.

Roselli's Gold is a quick, light read--a mildly entertaining story about WWII gold and a lost Vatican secret. The parts of the book that were good reminded me of a cross between Indiana Jones and the Jack Higgins novel "Sheba". The cover art was particularly intriguing and I spotted very few typos, impressive for a self-pubbed book.

What I didn't like: there were too many angles to the story for each to be developed sufficiently in the pages allocated. You have the Vatican, Roselli, Roselli's kids, the Mafia, the French--at some point it became mind-numbing. And I was let down by the ending, felt anti-climactic after all that had gone before. There is also a case of incest that, while not explicit, was totally unnecessary. It didn't add anything to the story and just gave me a queasy feeling.

I would give the plotting four stars and the characterization two. Michael Parker is an author of some talent, and I'll probably be reading more of him in the future.

This is the kind of story that I truly enjoy reading. It starts off with action during WWII and picks up many years later with the constant threat of some secret that might harm the Catholic church. I liked the mix of characters from the old soldiers involved in the WWII incident to the church officials and security to the young adults who get involved. And, to make it even more interesting, the Mafia!

I thought the action was pretty non-stop, the adventure and intrigue unrelenting, and interplay and hint of romance icing on the story.

I did find a number of errors that a professional editor would have picked up and in a couple of places, these errors did make reading a little more difficult for I slogged through it.
