Product Description

During the Second World War, Captain Miles Roselli hides three dead comrades and a fortune in Vatican gold in the Tibesti Mountains of the northern Sahara. Twenty years later, he is forced into a battle of wits when the secret of the gold bullion is revealed. Roselli was the only man alive who knew anything about the gold’s whereabouts and never expected the truth to come to light. The slaughter of a gold bullion dealer in London opens up a race for the gold, which involves the Italian mafia and the Vatican. But for the Holy See of Rome, the gold is of little interest to them, it is the document that had been stolen from the Secret Archives and concealed with the gold; its revelation could do lasting damage to the Roman Catholic Church. Roselli has to call on all his old instincts and the guile of a Desert Rat to protect his name, his family and the truth that lies buried beneath the Tibesti Mountains.

About the Author

Michael Parker was born in 1941 and educated in London and Portsmouth. He left school with no qualifications but a natural ‘bent’ for English, and it was this ability that set him on the path to writing. Michael has written for as long as he can remember, but not with the success he first coveted. His first novel, NORTH SLOPE was published by Macmillan in 1980. His following manuscript, HELL’S GATE was rejected and so began a saga that lasted twenty six years, but more of that later. Michael’s second novel, THE SHADOW OF THE WOLF, was published in 1984 by Robert Hale of London. It was to be many, many years of writing and rejections before he saw his third novel published in 2007. This was HELL’S GATE, the novel he had been trying to get accepted since 1980. Other books followed: THE EAGLE’S COVENANT in 2007 (Robert Hale). THE DEVIL’S TRINITY in 2008 (Robert Hale). In May 2009 THE THIRD SECRET. A COVERT WAR followed that in 2010, and later this year, 2011, THE BOY FROM BERLIN will be released, once again published by Robert Hale. Michael met his wife Pat when he was sixteen and she was fifteen. They married in 1960, have four sons, ten grandchildren and celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary in January 2010. Michael has worked as an office boy, a Merchant seaman, a plaster’s labourer, a deck hand, a cinema projectionist, an RAF Technician and a maintenance technician in the food industry. He has also worked in the Middle East. In 1997 Michael and Pat moved to Spain and settled on the Costa Blanca. Michael’s hobbies are Football, snooker, and keyboard. He is member of Torrevieja Christian Fellowship (TCF) along with his wife, and used to play keyboard there as a member of the Praise and Worship team. Michael has described his writing hobby as a ‘Sweet curse’. He says that the joy comes from writing a full length novel, living with it, creating the adventure, the characters, the excitement etc., but the curse comes from the number of rejections that are received from almost all the publishers and agents he contacts. But perseverance is the key word, which was the case with HELL’S GATE; twenty six years in trying. ROSELLI’S GOLD, which will be published on Amazon this year (2011), was first published as THE THIRD SECRET. Michael felt that the title had become over-used and decided the change reflected more on the genre and content of the book.

This review is from: Roselli's Gold (Paperback)
ROSELLI'S GOLD was first published in hardback in 2009 as THE THIRD SECRET. I decided to republish in paperback because of another best selling title of the same name getting in my way. You will find reviews for the hardback version on Amazon, but I will recap here.

A fortune in Gold bullion goes missing in the North African desert during the war along with a sensitive document that could prove very discreditable to the Roman Catholic Church if its existence was revealed. The Vatican is unaware that this document is with the gold bullion, so no alarm bells are ringing in the Catholic heirarchy. Twenty years later the secret of the bullion's hiding place comes to light and provokes a race to reclaim the gold. But the Catholic Church are not interested in recovering the gold, only the document. They enter into an alliance with the Italian Mafia, but are up against Miles Roselli, the man who was responsible for concealing the gold in the first instance. But Roselli's reasons are not to make himself a fortune, but to clear his name and the charge of murder that the British Army would bring against him once the secret of the gold bullion is out. The Italian Mafia know that the document would be a powerful weapon to have in its possession, and will stop at nothing to obtain it. Drawn into this powerful mix of intrigue and murder is Lieutenant Quebec, of the French Foreign Legion, and the head of Vatican security, Signore Cellini, a ruthless and cunning man. As the race increases, Roselli's English daughter, Angelina, and his Italian son, Bruno are thrown together as pawns in this dangerous game of bluff, counter bluff, intrigue and murder. Roselli's Gold is a fast paced thriller with action at almost every turn of the page.

More About the Author

I have been writing thrillers for many years and have experienced the highs and lows of being a writer. My first novel, NORTH SLOPE was published in 1980, and is now available as a POD paperback on Amazon. I have been married to Patricia for fifty one years and we live in Spain. We have four sons and ten grandchildren. My hobby is writing, of course, and to date I have had seven novels published. You can see my list in Author Central. My other hobbies are snooker, speedway, football and music. I play snooker, watch football and speedway, and play the keyboard (not too well). I am a born again Christian and have played keyboard in my fellowship for several years. I worked as a maintenance technician most of my adult life, serving sixteen years in the Royal Air Force, and about seventeen years with a food manufacturer. I retired in 1996 (I was fifty five years old) and moved out to Spain a year later. Pat and I have lived here, on the Costa Blanca for fourteen years. We are now planning to sell up and return to the UK. Other jobs I have done include Merchant Seaman, Office boy, and general maintenance for a chicken farmer! I have received many excellent comments about my writing, but the proof of the pudding, as they say, is in the eating. I am a member of the International Thriller Writers and used to be a contributing editor with them. In 2009, I worked on a global project with eleven other writers and produced a novel called PASSAGE TO REDEMPTION. This is now available as a POD novel by Acclaimed Books Ltd. (www.acclaimedbooks.com)of which I am an associate. For those of you who want to know a little more about me, and see me 'in the flesh', check out my website www.michaeljparker.com, where you'll be able to see a couple of TV interviews I have had. Enjoy your reading; especially mine!

Since writing that bio., I have another novel coming out in December (2011). It is called THE BOY FROM BERLIN, published by Robert Hale of London. I have also finished as a contributing editor to ITW and pursued other avenues in the book world. I have published NORTH SLOPE in paperback and on Kindle, and I have also released A COVERT WAR in paperback. It will be available on Kindle. I have also joined a group of writers who have come together to promote each others novels. We come under the banner of Acclaimed Books Ltd. You can find us at www.acclaimedbooks.com. Have a look, see what you think,
