Another winner from Millar,

This review is from: Rose's Last Summer (Mass Market Paperback)
Rose's Last Summer is classic Margaret Millar. A plot develops; you think you know what's going on even though you know Millar is the queen of surprise endings you should have seen coming. You promise yourself it can't happen again. Then, whammo.
She's pulled another surprising, yet completely plausible plot twist that makes far more sense of the narrative than what you thought was going to happen. Welcome to the world of Millar. On the surface, totally calm and nonthreatening. Beneath the surface, strong movements of psychological suspense, mistaken identity, and the dark sides of human nature. As I have mentioned in other reviews, Millar was married to Ross McDonald. Both got the lifetime award for achievement from the Mystery Writers of America and both deserved them without reservation. Like her other books, this novel will take you back to a time that no longer exists, but is just as fascinating as anything going on today. Highly, highly recommended. |
