I bought this for my husband as he wants to learn a little bit of my native language before we have kids, just so we can teach them and he is not so much out of the loop! The system is great, probably the best way to learn another language. You do need to use it a little each day and try to apply yourself for it to really work. I have read reviews saying it does not work because it does not translate. My husband is learning faster because he has to figure out the pictures on his own, without the program giving him the answer. This really does work. I have been completely impressed by his progress and more importantly because he enjoys doing it.

I found this product to be a good way to get started with basic speaking. It will teach you enough that you'll be able to get around a city using only a phrasebook. Don't expect to be able to conjugate or make complex sentences, however. It's great for getting started in a new, unfamiliar language and speeds up the learning process. Just be patient and do the lessons fairly regularly.

The customer service, on the other hand, is the worst I have ever encountered. If you are lucky, your software will install correctly and you'll never have to deal with them. If, however, you are unfortunate enough to have your computer break or your software malfunctions, you will then encounter an experience that is sure to leave you feeling insulted, cheated, and without necessarily having them solve your problem. They were rude and insulting from the first moment I began to speak to them. In the end, I had to solve the problem myself in a quite complicated manner because of strange rules they have regarding the license keys. It involving removing a hard drive and wiring it to another computer as well as reinstalling the program multiple times, all of which the customer service reps were totally unable or unwilling to help me with. I also recommend speaking slowly because some of the reps don't speak English very well.

Also be aware that if you buy the software from a third party other than an "approve seller", Rosetta stone will consider that pirated software even if it is a legitimate sale. (Note that this is a side issue and not related to their rudeness or inadequacy at doing their jobs in customer care.)

very useful for pronuciation and phrases, not so strong when it comes to vocabulary, grammar and verb conjugation. highly recommend for the self taught student of the language

I purchased this used Rosetta Stone program for what was a really good price. I received the package from the private party in good time and quality. However, when I attempted to install the program on my computer, I had problems getting it to accept the authentication code that had been provided. When I called the Customer Service number I was told that Rosetta Stone does not authorize anyone to resell their products and that this particular program set had already been installed on the allowed two computers. I had to contact the seller and request a refund and return the package. I suggest that if you want to buy Rosetta Stone products, buy them new.
