4.0 out of 5 stars The Best I Could Find so Far
While nothing can replace having an in person native speaking tutor, this software comes the best I've found so far. I did not seem to be able learn speech out of books since I don't seem to be able to "hear" the written word very well in Polish.

I was semi-disappointed by the Pimsleur CDs. They started out well, but quickly went to long formal request type...

1.0 out of 5 stars No way to learn a language
I have never believed Rosetta Stone's claims about learning a language the way a child does, but I guess I had to see for myself. I chose this language because it was my father's, and I really had a desire to learn to speak it before visiting his homeland. I don't see how anyone can learn to speak Polish using this method. While nothing can replace having an in person native speaking tutor, this software comes the best I've found so far. I did not seem to be able learn speech out of books since I don't seem to be able to "hear" the written word very well in Polish.

I was semi-disappointed by the Pimsleur CDs. They started out well, but quickly went to long formal request type speaking rather than what a real person would say to another while talking. My Polish friend said that no one would actually use those words.

As I said earlier, books weren't working. One CD/book combination I tried just went to fast for me to get anything out of it. I tried a couple of lower priced software programs and was quite disappointed, so I decided to just go for Rosetta Stone.

I am really learning the language, finally. I guess that you can't say too much better than that.

I have never believed Rosetta Stone's claims about learning a language the way a child does, but I guess I had to see for myself. I chose this language because it was my father's, and I really had a desire to learn to speak it before visiting his homeland. I don't see how anyone can learn to speak Polish using this method. The grammar is extremely irregular, and requiring the human brain to infer a complex grammar is nonsense. I have to admit that it may be a way to acquire some extra vocabulary, as an adjunct to a more text-based course, but I wonder if it is really worth the price. The worst thing about it is that there is no way to print out any of the data taught in the course except by using screen shots (Print-screen, followed by Ctrl-V in a word processor). Their claims for language learning are bogus as far as I am concerned.
