Very helplful, if not perfect, March 1, 2009
This review is from: Rosetta Stone V3: Chinese (Mandarin) Level 1-2 Set with Audio Companion [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM)
Thinking of learning Chinese is daunting at best and terrifying at worst, but the Rosetta Stone program makes a good effort at making it somewhat possible. In the past, I've used the Rosetta Stone Spanish (Latin American) program, and the new Version 3 backbone of all of the Rosetta Stone programs (as compared to the previous V3) in which I purchased Mandarin Chinese, is an improvement over earlier versions. In addition, it's possible to become familiar with some key concepts in Chinese early on. But it's hard for me to imagine that anyone could really be confident enough to speak Chinese after using the program, much less read it, as good as it is. Still, it's an enjoyable and somewhat productive way to become familiar with a language that has little familiarity with the languages that many of us Westerners know and should help anyone planning a trip to China.
