Yes all the hype about Rosetta Stone being amazing is true. What truly is remarkable is how many connections you make and having fun doing it. This program (L1) is meant for the complete beginner; HOWEVER:

I STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you purchase a book that explains the Russian script (Cyrillic) before beginning the program. I used Teach Yourself Beginner's Russian Script (Sold by AmazonTeach Yourself Beginner's Russian Script. The book will take you under a week to finish, and you will have a solid foundation to begin. [Also to note: For some reason I did not know of this for a while, but one of the tabs in the program has an "alphabet" section. It is great way to get extra practice pronouncing Russian words and fine tunning your Cyrillic]

I have tried it both ways, and knowing the components of the script allowed me to advance with more understanding of the words.

This is truly the best product to "get your foot in the door" on a path towards language proficiency. Do not expect to master the language with a few clicks of the mouse. This program should be followed by L2 and L3, and even then some more studying will be required to gain proficiency.

Rosetta Stone is a great way to begin this process and give you the confidence to continue!

I have heard how good Rosetta Stone is but just thought it was more hype to help sell a product. After buying it though I now see that it is a perfect way to learn a language. I tried several ways to learn Russian and didn't get very far but now I am making good progress using Rosetta Stone.

This product is good when it works - but be prepared to constantly battle with patches, upgrades and customer support. After one lesson, the product simply stoppped working and gave the following error "Unable to load database ......please contact customer support".

I had additional issues with the initial installation. The program immediately wanted a patch (update). The product would not run without this update. It took several attempts and several hours to get the product up and running.
