My 2nd unit, works perfectly, can't say anything bad about it.

The device really is just a pass through from the drive to the SATA port in the machine.

Due to crappy design, you can not use in any cases with tool-less solutions.

BEWARE!!! Although I do love this product and will likely buy more, be aware this will not work well in a lot of computer manufacturers computer cases without modifications. If your computer has any kind of flip door covering individual bays intended for CD/DVD drives you may have to do some heavy modification to make it work if you can get it to work at all. Also cases where only one side of the bay can be accessed for installing screws may also cause problems. I would imagine it works great with about any standard custom computer cases, but computer manufacturers have a tendency to use very non-standard cases of various types with external bays intended only for CD and DVD drives. I do however really like this product and was determined to use it without upgrading to a new, more standardized computer case and explain my solutions to give ideas to anyone else who may be determined to use this product to help them decide if it is worth the trouble.

Acer Aspire E360 usage: This computer is an example of one with a flip down DVD door covering each bay. I used the saw blade on my leatherman to cut out all plastic that got in the way, being careful not to cut out any more than needed. I then used a dremil to remove imperfections in the previous cuts. At that point it could be made functional but could only screw in on one side of bay which still seemed to work pretty well but looked very bad. The way I have it now though it looks like it belongs there. Had to drill new holes on both sides of the bay to get it just the right depth and mounted solid which was a bit tricky to get the holes in the right place. I ended up having to slot the holes with a file for some adjustment.

My setup:
Case: Antec Performance One Series P183 V3 Black ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Power Supply: Antec CP-850 (smaller version of Antec CP-1000 1000 Watt CPX SLI CrossFire 80 PLUS Modular Power Supply)
Motherboard: ASUS P6X58D Premium - LGA 1366 - X58 - DDR3 - USB 3.0 SATA 6 Gb/s - ATX Motherboard

I use this to swap boot drives for a couple of different purposes. My drives are:
1) Seagate Barracuda 7200 1.5 TB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s 32MB Cache 3.5 Inch Internal Hard Drive ST31500341AS-Bare Drive
2) Seagate ST380815AS Barracuda 7200.10 SATA 3.0Gb/s 80-GB OEM Hard Drive

Overall it works great. The lock is a great add on for my purposes (makes sure no one accidentally pull my boot drive during operation), and is real easy to install with my particular setup.

The only caveats to mention with my particular setup: My case/power supply/fan/drive combo is ultra quiet. Using this tray does make the hard disk activity a little more audibly noticeable. You'd only hear it in a quiet room. (if you have music or are playing a game with sound, you'd never notice)

The Rosewill 5.25-Inch SATA Trayless Hot Swap Mobile Rack works as advertized on Windows 7 machine. I am using 4TB Seagate with no issues. Easy install and setup.

My 2nd unit, works perfectly, can't say anything bad about it. Just remember to enable "hot swap" on its SATA port in your BIOS.

This is the second one of these I've purchased and installed in desktop systems. So far I've never had the first problem or glitch with using it. I use it for almost effortless backups on the systems and data transfers between them. Yes, I know I can perform a network transfer but having data backed gives me a little peace of mind and I can simply add a larger drive. The device really is just a pass through from the drive to the SATA port in the machine.

Haven't had any issues. Using two of these now in two different boxes (one Windows 8.1, one Linux). Haven't had any problems...except one where the blue LED power on light is not working...not sure this is a negative. These are nice in that they are a straight SATA pass-thru (i.e. does not show up as a separate device). Note...the installation in a case where you cannot screw the device into the case mounts may be an issue. The side panels on this device are connected via rubber grommets to reduce vibration from the HDD...which can cause installation issues in some cases as they are "flexible". P.S. Get the 2.5 drive converter from ICY Dock and this device will cover your SDDs as well.
