First impression out of the box--this keyboard is heavy. It weighs more than my laptop. It's not an issue since it will be sitting on my desktop--just an observation.

These comments are relevant to Windows 7

The blue backlight is too bright by default, but can be reduced, or turned off. The settings are not saved between reboots but it does save brightness settings if computer goes to sleep. The green lights on the Num Lock, Caps Lock & Scroll Lock keys are very bright. I see why others recommend putting some dark tape over the green light. I'll probably do the same.

One annoyance is that the Scroll Lock key does not have a blue backlight. Admittedly, I've used the scroll lock key maybe half a dozen times in 20+ years, but come on--it's the only key on the keyboard that doesn't have a light.

Another minor nuisance is that the multimedia keys are accessed by pressing Fn+function key. This requires a bit more attention and coordination than keyboard with dedicated multimedia keys.

The Multimedia part of the keys are not backlit and it's usually possible to see which key you want, but this appears to be an oversight. Likewise, the symbols underneath the number keys (that's right--under, instead of over like a regular keyboard) are not backlit.

A true nuisance is that the volume up & volume down keys are reversed, and thus completely counterintuitive. Fn+F6 raises the volume and Fn+F7 lowers the volume. This is really a bad design. I'm going to check some keymapping software to see if it's possible to remap the volume controls but I don't have my hopes up. I obviously only want to switch the Fn+F6/F7 and not the actual F6/F7 keys.

I really like the feel of Cherry MX Brown switches!, overall I'm happy with it.
But some small things I don't like and worth being mentioned:

1. The blue lights are too powerful, although I use only the last light level. (but mostly turned off)
2. The green light on caps/scroll/num Lock is cutting through my eye! Simple fix: I apply a vertical sticky label on the key's side.

Bought this for use in low light. I got this to replace a "DAS KEYBOARD" that worked great mechanically but had no light feature and was difficult to see clearly in low light or the dark. This Keyboard is extremely well made, mechanical switches are quiet and require minimum pressure to strike. Light is blue and shines through letters on keys, easily adjusts through 4 levels or off. When my computer enters sleep mode the keyboard does also and the lights turn off. Moving my mouse and activating computer also activates keyboard. Caps Lock, Scroll Lock, and Number Lock keys are normally dark but light up green when activated. keyboard cable requires 2 usb ports and installs drivers when first connected. Keyboard has 2 usb ports on side (top right). I will update review after several months but first impression is excellent, i would strongly recommend for anyone who likes mechanical switch keyboards and needs to see keys in low light or darkness. Update 16 March 2013: Still a great keyboard. Only thing i wish was different is the need to re-adjust the light intensity every time i reboot my pc. I keep the keys at the lowest light setting and have to remember to reset after every reboot. But this is just a minor annoyance and i would still give this keyboard 5 stars because the keys remain crisp and responsive!

Yes, an inexpensive keyboard with mechanical keys. I've been using this keyboard for a number of months now. Personally I think the feel of it is just about right. You can feel the keys click, and you know you made contact. Some people say it's noisy - it may be a bit, but again, it's not your typical flat keyboard. This one is like the really old ones - it has mechanical keys that use Cherry MX Brown Switches. Now if you don't know what that means, you should just google it.

This keyboard is also well lighted - every key has a blue glow to it. A glow that you can set at different levels. It also has green glows under the most important keys - keys like the Number Lock, Capital Lock, and Scroll Lock. And like I said above, you can adjust these lights, and or, turn off areas of the keyboard. For example - you have three settings. 1. Only WASD are lit up (important when gaming). 2. All keys except for numeric keyboard are lit, and 3. All keys are lit up.

And you can adjust the brightness of the keys lit up. There are three settings for brightness - high, medium and low. However, in a dark room, they will seem bright - all of the settings. Anyway, you should always keep a light on when you're typing - at least as small lamp

Other comments: I've found that keys never repeat. What I mean is that sometimes on non-mechanical keyboards, if you rest your finger on a key for more than a second, it will send that command numerous times. But on a mechanical keyboard, it doesn't seem to happen - you have to force it to recognize that you are doing it, that you want more than one key.

Now I type really fast, (I'd like to think so) - most of my errors are from my typing and not from the keyboard (like what happens in regular keyboards). I think this is why I like the newer mechanical keyboards and cherry switches so much. .

Kudos to Rosewill for making this excellent keyboard!
