Customer Reviews

This remote works great with XBMC and Windows Media Center.
#1 GameMaster
The buttons are sort of tiny, but I have more of a problem with the layout.

I've paired this remote with a minimal Ubuntu 12.10 install & XBMC v12 and it operates flawlessly right off the bat. The range is great and it's easy to use.

This item, despite being Windows MCE geared, works very well with the Mythbuntu 12.04.3 software. Highly recommended for those who are using linux-based DVRs.

I've been using the popular Logitech K400 as my mainstay HTPC controller. It's as nice as you can get for a full-size keyboard and control. But sometimes it's nice just having the feel of a remote.

Setup
I use Windows 7 with Windows Media Center as my prime HTPC engine (HDHomeRun Prime Tuner in background). I simply plugged in the IR dongle into the front of my case, and windows did the rest! It automatically recognized the device, downloaded and installed the appropriate software. In 2 minutes I was up and running. All the buttons are preconfigured to work with WMC!

Function
Fairly decent range. Perhaps better than my k400, which probably has more to do with how a remote is held (in one hand, pointed at something), versus a keyboard(laying down). The sleep button is great, as I can wakeup and put to sleep the my HTPC very simply (if you have an SSD running your OS, the response time is quite impressive). The remote functions well with Netflix within WMC too. The builtin functions makes setting changes in WMC easy to find and make.

The dongle itself is a valuable commodity as you can pair it with other remote options such as the popular Logitech Harmony universal remote series. The price of this package is worth it just for the dongle!

I am looking forward to trying this with my Raspberry pi running XBMC and will update the review with the results. For now I'm very happy with this on my main HTPC!

5 stars!

Bought this for windows media center and then my eyes were opened to plex and I have never looked back again. I occasionally use it in my media center but mostly in plex or XBMC even without programming the buttons. What really surprised me the KMP, VLC and a host of media player work with this out of the box and most of all....it works on LINUX!!!

This remote worked right out of the box, and all the keys performed their function as they are labeled. However, I wanted to customize the functions to control VLC, and various other programs. It turns out that the remote is totally customizable in Windows if you don't mind tinkering with the registry a bit. The key to look for is (remember, save a copy before you change any key):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HidIr\Remotes\745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57da

This key contains hex values mapping the remote buttons to PS/2 scan codes. First value is the remote key, last three values are the PS/2 code. So for example, an entry like

49,00,00,00,04,08,22,\

maps the "pics" key to win+5, launching my image browser. The hex codes for all the buttons on this remote (except Radio... it's a mystery!) are:

0c sleep
14 ffwd
15 rwd
16 play
17 rec
18 pause
19 stop
1b skip back
1a skip fwd

I was given an Xbox One as a Christmas gift and I want to take advantage of the built in voice controls for media playback on my Windows 8 Media Center PC. Xbox one makes it easy to pass through the video signal and the Kinect works as an IR blaster. Now with the IR receiver included with this remote, I can just say "Xbox Pause" to pause live or recorded TV and many other commands.

I tried a cheaper remote/receiver, but it wasn't a certified WMC remote and the Xbox One didn't work with it.

The remote itself is OK. The buttons are sort of tiny, but I have more of a problem with the layout. The buttons I use the most are the skip forward and skip back, which are located at the very top of the remote. If I could design my own remote, the playback buttons would be near the bottom and the numeric buttons would be at the top.

Directional sensitivity of this IR remote didn't work well with my installation. I changed to an RF model, which works great.

I purchased this remote to enhance my XBMC experience. I use XBMC for all my video entertainment (movies, TV shows, anime, etc.), and I needed a very simple and user-friendly MCE remote. I am very pleased with the Rosewill RRC-126. Plug and play right out of the packaging, and very easy to use. To be honest, most of the buttons do not work for me on XBMC, as the remote was programmed for MCE. But the buttons that work are just the ones I need: play, stop, pause, rewind, menu, etc.

My only challenge, but it is a small one: the USB receiver requires that I point at it to use the remote. This forces me to lean forward on my couch, which is very tiring :o) Asides from that, all is great! I am happy buyer!!
