5.0 out of 5 stars A very complete set
These are high-quality sturdy plastic cookie cutters. Their sizes range from 2" to 4", and they come in a large variety of shapes. Although there are some holiday themed cutters, they do not dominate the set so people of all cultural backgrounds should be able to find shapes that they would like.

Here is an enumeration of what comes in the set:

3.0 out of 5 stars some cutters work great while others do not
This huge set is a real bargain at 100 cutters for [the price]. I especially was drawn to these because it contains all the letters of the alphabet and all the numbers. I had been looking for letters and found one set that was nearly $30 for just the 26 letters. You can easily see why this set is a bargain.

3.0 out of 5 stars some cutters work great while others do not, July 31, 2002
This review is from: Roshco 100-Piece Plastic Cookie Cutter Set (Kitchen)
This huge set is a real bargain at 100 cutters for [the price]. I especially was drawn to these because it contains all the letters of the alphabet and all the numbers. I had been looking for letters and found one set that was nearly $30 for just the 26 letters. You can easily see why this set is a bargain.

I have used this so far on cookie dough only, traditional homemade sugar cookie dough intended for use with cookie cutters. I found the cutters with the solid back part (such as the cone part of the ice cream cone) were very hard to separate from the dough, rendering the imprint/cookie cutout completely ruined. This was the case for all the ones that had a solid backing section. The cutters with clear backs (such as the letters) were fine. I was dipping them in flour first...to no avail.

Another problem that causes me to give this a three star rating is that some of the detailed (and interesting to my children) cutters such as the transportation vehicles have such tiny sections--the dough stuck to them and would not release them and it broke off and therefore was ruined. I put the offending cutters aside and plan to go through it (alone) and take out the ones that simply don't work to save the children disappointment and tears, which did happen with the above mentioned incident.

I have not tried this on inedible play dough recipes yet so I don't know if the above problems are unique to cookie dough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for baking, February 22, 2001
This review is from: Roshco 100-Piece Plastic Cookie Cutter Set (Kitchen)
While these are too much fun for cookie parties (see the set of 12 paste food colors to make fun icings for cookies) you can use these for other things.

Kids love to play with modeling clay. You can make salt dough as an inexpensive and fun toy and use it along with these cutters. To make salt dough you need: 4 cups flour 1 cup plain or iodized salt 1-1/2 cups hot tap water

Pour the hot water and salt into the bowl and stir for 1 minute. The grains of salt will not completely dissolve. Add the flour and stir until the water is absorbed. To make colored dough, add 1/4 cup liquid tempera paint to the water before adding it to the flour.

Knead for several minutes until smooth and clay-like. To preserve salt dough creations for posterity, bake the dough on a cookie sheet at 325 F for about two hours. Dough should be solid throughout, including the thickest parts. Store dough in a plastic bag or covered container. Use the dough within 24 hours.

You can varnish the finished, baked dough with urethane varnish. This technique can be used to make centerpieces for holidays.

The detailed pieces are too small to form cookies and the cookies get stuck in them. I wasn't able to use them and had to resell them.

This set is good for kids, especially with play-dough! For making cookies, it's not as great - the cookies sometimes get stuck and it's a little difficult to work with, but they DO work! Considering how cheap they are, they are still a very good buy! Highly recommend!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for light use or to play with!, November 13, 2002
This review is from: Roshco 100-Piece Plastic Cookie Cutter Set (Kitchen)
Let's face it, these cookie cutters are best used for cooking with kids, or letting them play with them. They do have many different basic shapes and will carry you through all of the holidays. They are good for playing with clay, or making cookies if you are not too finicky. These cutters do not always release well, and you do need to baby them along a bit if you want perfect results. In my opinion if you were looking for the perfect cookie cutter you wouldn't be buying a package of a 100 of them for such a low price. I think they are great for everyday. Be patient, or give them to the kids to play with. They are lot of fun

5.0 out of 5 stars SIMPLY VALUE FOR MONEY, unlimited by imagination!, December 8, 2004
This review is from: Roshco 100-Piece Plastic Cookie Cutter Set (Kitchen)
Hmm... Roshco 100-Piece Plastic Cookie Cutter Set - simply value for money!

If you have kids below 16, go for it.
As for me, I am forever young at heart especially with this 100 cookies cutters!

As for baking, some of the cutters are so BIG (so will be the cookies! I have to watch my weight!), unless you have a baking party for kids.
Each kid get to choose their favourite cutter to bake the cookies. Parental supervision is a must since the cookies dough do get stuck on some cutter.
At the end of Baking Day, each kid get to bring home - their prized cookies of the favourite shape! Hey MUM, LOOKED! My football cookies!

Another option, kids can draw outline of the various cutter on Art and Craft Day, and PAINT their Mona Lisa masterpiece!

Whatever you want to do with this cutter, simply limited by ones's imagination!

Exploit and explore.
I am sure many did especially with the alphabet and number cutters.

psst...the cutters occupy reasonable amount storage space.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great set that kids love and can use too, February 1, 2003
This review is from: Roshco 100-Piece Plastic Cookie Cutter Set (Kitchen)
I think the reason this set is so great is that lots of the shapes are kid friendly and are also big enough for kids to hold and use effectively. Some for every holiday you can imagine are included, and super basic shapes that let creative minds go crazy! Well worth the $10.

3.0 out of 5 stars not well designed, February 25, 2001

This review is from: Roshco 100-Piece Plastic Cookie Cutter Set (Kitchen)
The more desirable unusual shapes are not well designed, sections are often small and narrow and dough is difficult to remove intact. Some details are useless and lost unless you make the cookies very thick. You will get your money's worth in basic shapes, and some of he unususal ones work.

2.0 out of 5 stars Wish I'd gone with Wilton's 100-piece set!, January 20, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Roshco 100-Piece Plastic Cookie Cutter Set (Kitchen)
Here's the deal -- I'm a sucker for the free shipping option. So I went with these cookie cutters (which cost less and had free shipping) instead of my gut -- I had borrowed the Wilton cookie cutters from someone else, but I figured: How different can they be? Here's how:

1. The Wilton cookie cutters are larger in scale, so for little hands, it makes them easier to use and larger cookies for easier decorating.
2. One-third (I counted) of the non-letter Rosco cutters have those insets other folks have mentioned, making them useless for making cookies (because you'd have to literally dig out the cookie dough from those parts). I kept them for my little girl, in case they'll work with her play clay ... but it sure makes them pointless for cookies.
3. Unlike the other reviewers, my Rosco cutters arrived promptly. But again, I wished I'd spent a bit more on the Wilton cutters.

Have fun using your cutters, whichever you choose!
